We are going to pull up our existing hardwood, tile, and carpet downstairs and replace it with a high end cherry. A flooring specialist who is highly recommended came out to our house to measure today. I had told him what we are going to use, and he brought a similar alternative for us to look at. Our first choice is a 3/4" prefinished solid Brazillian cherry, the alternative he brought was a 5/8" solid cherry. Regardless, we are going to spend a lot of money, but he says the 5/8" stuff is just as good and is @ $4.00 less psf. I don't know about that. Our first choice is also 3&1/2" wide, which I think looks better, vs. 3" for the other stuff. My inclination is to buy what we want because it's going to be expensive regardless, and I think I might regret not getting exactly what we want, but man...it is an expensive pill to swallow. I would appreciate any insight you guys might have.
