Darth Vader has one... So does Superman and Batman... What the hell do they do?

Now I notice Zombies dont have capes... is there something that I dont know? Maybe we all should be buying and wearing capes.

get caught on things and rip.  it gives you a more "battle hardened" look when your cape's all torn up.

in case they get too cold they'll have something to cover themselves up.

Darth Vader and Batman: makes them look dark and imposing. Also, helps Batman to glide, since he doesn't have Kryptonian powers.

Superman: Makes him look like a fruitcake so that his enemies will underestimate him.

More importantly, what is the significance of wearing underwear on the outside?

They're like blankets you wear.  I worked with this guy from Luxembourg who'd come to work in a cape.  But it was a really nicely made one, very high quality material and make, it obviously cost a lot.  I guess he could pull it off being older and European.

Exactly, a real cape is like a blanket that you wear.

Some (traditional) hunters in Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, etc wear them, especially when sitting on a stand or in a raised blind.  When you're back at the lodge you can take off your cape and the dog can sleep on it, or you can throw it across your lap like a blanket.  These are most often loden cloth.





There is also a formal cape.  When wearing a coat with tails (either a cutaway morning coat during the day, or a white tie tailcoat at night), a cape is the more appropriate overgarment than an overcoat.  Something to do with standing and sitting.  You'll notice that in many pictures of Woodrow Wilson and FDR, when riding around in an open carriage or automobile they would be wearing a heavy dark wool cape.  An opera cape for night would usually be lined in silk.

FDR was so famous for cape wearing that he was memorialized in one.  I came very close to buying a cape, but forgot about the ebay auction.   Sadly the cape era is over

ETA: Take the cape off Superman and you're faced with the fact that you're staring at a guy with tights on.

If I could fly I'd totally be wearing a cape... it just seems to complete the look of a super hero costume.
