Leaving Northern Ireland tomorrow morning, where I have languished for almost 3 weeks with the in-laws now. The liberal America hating politics here are really starting to get on my nerves here, and if I hear another reference to George Bush or the US being the cause of all the world's problems I'm gonna shit myself.

Here's a perfect example of the politics here - I read on page 3 of The Irish News just today all about how Amnesty International is waging a campaign to rid the free world of unnecessary guns and other weapons. Information is provided on how to support an international ban on firearms and how to support some international body who will supposedly determine who can get guns, etc. Page fucking 3, full page article. POS was written like Amnesty International was the word of God.

The Bogside in Derry City is a socialist cesspool. That's all I'll say on that.

That being said,

The area where my in-laws live is breathtaking in appearance, the schools are outstanding and FREE, the houses are beautiful, the beer and conversation flows freely, the people are decent and hardworking but their politics suck.

I can't wait to get the fuck out of here. Thanks for listening to my wee rant. DOW out.

The crime rate is low, but steadily rising. Criminals here are coddled big time. Property crime (burglary, larceny) is usually punished with a fine from what I have read.

How are things outside of that area? Down south, etc?

Idle curiosity if things are different between the Brit area, and the counties down below..

America is not winning any popularity contests here, North or South. America = Guantanamo Bay = torture to many Irish folks, especially the young.

What do you expect from the country (southern) that doesn't allow smoking in the pubs?

Its California East!

In fairness, I appreciated that one. My eyes did too. Far more smoky than any American bar.

Any Blarney Stones in Northern Ireland or are they common to just Ireland? I swear in NYC they were the best restaurant-bars I have ever been to.

I can relate. I will be going over there in about two months to visit the "in laws" I am pretty much dreading it.

I can imagine what they will say to me when thery find out I am coming directly from a war zone.
"GASP..... YOU are supporting the war effort?"

It has FAR better gun laws than California.

ANdy

It does, unfortunately. They loosened them up after I emigrated to California. I wrote on an Irish military board, saying "Nya, nya, look what I have!" (Posted piccies of .40 and 5.56mm), now they're buying things that I can't get in California. The buggers.
