I quit drinking 8-9 years ago.

One of the smarter things I ever did...

if I admit that I don't like beer, will I have to turn in my man card?  (what if I follow up with the fact that I prefer my grain whiskey straight?)

ALL rarely, and in moderation, of course

I quit drinking for 4 or 5 years, and I give it up every Lent. If I ever have trouble quitting, I'll quit permanently. The only real problem is that your drunk friends are not nearly as entertaining when you're sober.

I quit drinking when I graduated college.  It was draining my wallet, and quite frankly, I was an asshole when I got drunk.   I'll have a glass of champagne at a wedding, but that's about it.

non drinker here- for the reasons above, and the stuff i saw freshman year.  i realize that it's very possible to drink in a healthy matter- but knowing my own personality i'll just stay away from it.

I barely drink.  Does that count?

Maybe 10-15 beers a year.

I don't drink.

But if things keep going the way they have been going lately, I might start.

You're not the only one...    Drank myself into alcohol poisoning when I was young and stupid, and swore never to do that again!   I may have a beer or glass of wine at a family get togther once or twice a year.

I don't drink beer, it makes me gain weight. I sledom drink liqours. I stopped for a long time and it seems that I am ready to quite altogther now.  I just don't fit in. Sometimes I get depressed becasue I am different. Guys on the ship read girly mag and goto clubs , I read gun mags and stay on the ship regaurdless of the country- except the US. I am a loner and one thing I have learn in not to say I am not going to drink cause I at times when did I felt guilty, especially trying to be a better christian. But it was in the comfort of my home and I never got into trouble. Now I have come to except the fact that I am a loner and different and there's a bottle of Martell and Paul Mason on my counter that I haven't touched since new years. I also found that when I am in a workout regeiment.  Say I've been running and working out for a week, well one drink put my body back at square one.. It make me lazy the next day and I need more to be motivated in working out again.

that is just me though.

I grew up with alcoholic parents (mother and step-father).  My biological father died when I was two.  He was an ex-alcoholic when he married my mom.  I do not know whether the years of drinking contributed to his death or not.  I am sure it did not help his health.

My wife and I decided to stop drinking when our daughter was born.  We did not want her to grow up with parents that drank.

Now, I, along with my 20 yr old daughter and 15 yr old son are involved in public Christian ministry in a large city club district on Sat nights.  They get so see what alcohol does to a person.  They don't want to touch the stuff.

I am happy to say that my mother is still alive, and she quit drinking many years ago.

I quit drinking when I started carrying concealed weapon, more than 10 years ago.  The two didn't seem to mix.  Haven't regretted a day since.  Seems like when you're drunk, you can get the
bullets out of the barrel real fast.  Just can't get them to go back in.

I quit drinking in '86.

Several months ago my doctor said one drink a day would help my cholesterol levels.

Since then I've had maybe 3 or 4 beers a week.  Sometimes I don't think about it and go a week without noticing them in the back of the fridge.

In moderation and for medicinal purposes.

I don't drink. Both of my parents are/were drunks.

I was also put off by it after my 21st birthday. I went out with a couple of Marines and drank approx:

9 Beers
3 Three Wisemen
4 shots of Jaegermeister
3 shots of 151
2 shots of Jack Daniels
several mixed drinks
and an unknown amount of Vodka

This may not be a whole lot, but the resulting hangover was pretty fierce and has kept me away since then.

In the past 12 months, I have sat through DTs three times. Once was alcohol with a dear friend. He's coming up on his 1 year sober anniversary. Second was a pain pill addicted friend. That was tough, but he graduated from 12 steps and is still involved as a volunteer.

Third was my father-in-law. I spent the week before Christmas sitting with him through DTs. He was 1 liter to 1/2 gallon a day for 9 years straight. He's been sober since December 18th.

I've sort of lost my taste for alcohol.

I had to force myself to drink beer when I was in high school, it tasted so awful.  I eventually learned to love it and drank like a fish in college, but I gave up booze in graduate school.  I had a sip of beer a few years ago, and it was tasting awful again.

I'd LIKE to become a non-drinker.  Hell, that would save me about 3,000 calories per week and drop me down to <10% body fat (currently my bf% is in the teens).

I only drink on weekends/Friday nights.  So it's only 2 nights per week (unless the NFL is on) and about 8-10 drinks per nite.

I drink twice a year (first half and second half )(J/K)

I will have a beer on the fourth of July and usually a Rum and Coke on New Years Eve.  Other than that nothing.  I still have a partial bottle of Bacardi  that I bought when I was in Puerto Rico in '84.

I drank quite a bit when I was single (not attached to any one girl) then I met my wife and slowed  down, then I got married to her and slowed down even more, then I found out I was diabetic and pretty much quit.  I'll have MAYBE one lite beer a month, Maybe.  When I go camping or go to Vegas I'll have a few drinks but that's about it.

I dont' entirely trust a man who won't drink--unless he's a "recovering" alcoholic--and even then I question his ability to control himself.

Never picked up the habit, even in the army. A glass of champagne at New Years is about it.

Wait until you are a non-drinker and your buddy gets into home brewing.

"Hey John!! Try some of this beer!!  I made it from Formica with raspberry flavoring!!"
