[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Anything that I should really be concerned about with my new Kerosene heater?

23,000 BTU heater I picked up at Menards for 110 bucks. I'll be using it in my pole barn and garage from time to time this winter when I need to work on things (cars, snowmobiles, etc.). Seems pretty straight forward, but anything I should be concerned with?

I have one in my work shop. Main things to be concerned with are common sense things. Don’t knock it over, lay combustibles next to it or cause any combustible vapors around it. Mine burns very clean and when Kerosene was not so expensive I used it to supplement my house heat.

I just fired the thing up. I"m actually using jet fuel in it. Seems to work just fine.

Fuel is free (sumpings out of my plane).........what little water there is in the fuel, I let it settle down and just use the "top" part, or the fuel part. No water gets mixed in with the good stuff.

Will it burn denatured alcohol? That stuff burns real clean, and HOT.

Get a decent carbon monoxide detector, just to be safe.

(That's a blue face from too much CO!)

Yeah, that's the only thing ....... make sure you don't work in an enclosed space for too long without letting in some fresh air.

Also, watch out for the 150, 000BTU units like the one I just bought. First time I tried to "fire" it up, it did nothing but sit there with raw Kerosene pouring out the business end with the igniter trying to fire.

The auxillary fireman in me said that was bad.
