Gotta Love it, There is a fellow that plays with a band,
Named "Lefty" Demarco.
Lefty's hand is malformed, but he is one of the best standup bassists around.
Plays with a rockabilly band outta austin.
Cool as hell to see live.

That is even more inspiration for me to learn how to play guitar.

Great player.
One of my favorite all-time guitarists is Phil Keaggy - lost his right middle finger when he was ten. (No - I don't believe the Hendrix story - never have).
Guys like this love the music, and they overcome whatever it takes to play, and shine.

Cool and all - but I think cutting your own hand off just to show your bass-zilla prowess is a tad extreme (and not in a 'Mountain Dew Xtreme' kind of way either).

That's probably just about one of the most difficult ways to play any instrument. Left hand playing like that is incredible.

I hear ya... But here is my question.. Did he:
play bass once before THEN lose his hand and said "Im not giving up"
OR---
lose the hand and one day say "You know, I think today I will learn how to play the bass"
Either way, this guy is amazing for just his perserverance.
