I saw a few pieces on an auction board but want to check on the dealer first to lessen the chances of a scam.

BATFE has it on their website.  Something like an instant check.

The user needs only enter the first 3 digits and the last 5 digits of the FFL being verified in the blocks provided and select the SUBMIT button.

But you would have to request the FFL info, which a legit dealer would supply.

While you're at it, ask for a phone number and check that against the FFL info.
