If you are +/- 5 years from 40 like I am you probably remember some of those Saturday morning cartoons. They were serious about cartoons in those days. Lots of people remember the easy one's like Speed Racer, Johnny Quest (Dr. Quest had to be gay didn't he?), Scooby-Do, and Road Runner. How many remember some of the really warped ones? Anything to do with HR Puffinstuff and WitchiePoo (acid trip there, man). How about that all time favorite Ark II - not! The Secret Squirrel Show (with Morocco Mole)? Hong Kong Fooey - Kung Fu Doggie? Want to draw down on a Sleestack in Valley of the Dionsaurs? There were some seriously stupid cartoons.
But there were some I liked, too. Fury (boy and his horse and old coot PeeWee), Johnny Socko and his Flying Robot, Ultraman (looking back he was kinda lame), Flipper, Astro Boy (beats me why now), Tarzan, and Dastardly & Muttley in their Flying Machines. Which ones do you remember? |
super chicken, Underdog.
of course I saw those when they were in syndication. |
You for got Mr. MaGoo, THundar the Barbarian, Space Ghost (the original, not the stupid CN remake), Superfriends, and more that I can't remember right now. BTW, the Sleestacks was from Land of the Lost. Remember Shazaam and Isis? |
Hong Kong Phooey, Number Super Guy!
Yeah that was a great one. Wonder Twin Powers, Activate! Yep, HR Puffenstuff was part of Sid and Marty Kroft. Also had the Far out Space Nuts, Sigman the Sea Monster and Wonder Buggy. I also remeber Josey and the Pussy Cats Grape Ape Jabber Jaws Speed buggy The freaking Bugaloos Anyone remeber Space Giants? It was from Japan. It was a family of giant robots that turned into jets that shot lightning. |
I remember all those and most are available on DVD. |
not quite 70s but very early 80s
TurboTeen the dude that turned into a camaro or really old crap Tennesee Tuxedo |
The Road Runner was in theaters before he moved to TV in the 60's. Recently I woke up early in he AM and found Gigantor, another 60's cartoon, showing up on Cartoon Channel around 5:00 AM. Dang, but that show looks so stupid now! But when I was of the Correct Age, it was thrilling! |
Shazaam!! Followed by Isis of course
Spiderman cartoons.... For awhile my Dad was stationed in Canada and some of my Saturday morning cartoons were in French |
I was actually going to mention that. Came on after Shazam. And the original poster forgot to mention The Jetsons. |
Yeah, the late 60's was probably when I was first starting to get into cartoons beyond Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo.
Wasn't 8-Man the guy who got his powers from smoking? |
Wonder Woman wasn't too bad either!
When you think back to a lot of those 70's shows they were very big on T&A. |
I have Wonder Woman Seasons I-III on DVD. |
Electra Woman and Dina Girl.
I loved the Far Out Space Nuts and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. ETA: Wacky Racers, Captn Caveman, Rickochet Rabbit, Possible Possum. |

+1 ... beat me to it Captain CaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeMMMMMMAAAAAAAANNNN! He had some hot chicky friends! I miss Saturday mornings like those. I made Dad watch edit: I miss Battle of the Planets most actually. All those cool gadegts and the chick was extra delish. |

How about Pink Panther? Used to eat the cereal too. Man... these bring back memories. Kids today need that old stuff instead of this crap they show. In fact, there aren't that many cartoons on regular tv anymore are there?
No, regular TV is shit now. No good toons on the 3 networks, no Saturday mornings like the old days. But, there are some great cartoons now for kids of all ages - I watch a healthy dose with my kiddo, and some are very good. Believe me, our nostalgia has made our memory soft - watch some of those old toons now, they pretty much stink if you get right down to it. The animation is jumpy and slow, or just crude, and the stories/voices are juvenile. I think today's toons are often times (not always, but generally) smarter and better done. |
wow. i forgot about some of those. How about Clutch Cargo? The Monkeys?
What was that one show which was, i think, in Africa w/ an open topped type of Jeep painted in zebra stripes and they also had some freaky looking native w/ like white stripes painted on him, almost looked like a skeleton? ETA: don't forget Bozo the Clown. |
What was the name of the minority character on the futuristic show the Jetsons?
I know it's from the sixties, but anybody remember Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles. Loved that show, but it was banned for being to violent.
Kimba, Marine Boy, Ultraman, Johnny Socko.
What was that show with Ruth Buzzi as a astronaut with Jim Nabors? ETA: The Lost Saucer! Kroft superhour or something like that. |
His Name was David_Hineline |
Lance Link secret chimp.
Schoolhouse Rock Fat Albert and the Cosby kids. The Banana Splits The Archies The Jackson5 The Groovy Goulies The Wacky Racers |
Bigfoot and Wildboy Who played Mighty Isis anyhow? Hubba-hubba. |
60's 50's to 80's or maybe longer! Just when did that last show go off the air? |
Joanna Cameron |
Saturday morning sitting in front of the TV for hours eating cereal. Ahhhhh. No bills, no job, no worries.
All the Sid and Marty Krofft shows were great. Wasn't there an Evel Knieval cartoon? Or was he just pulling a Harlem Globetrotter like cameo? |
Space Giants was great. Goldar and Silvar. The theme song was PAINFULLY bad. |
Hot Wheels
The Groovy Ghoulies The Banana Splits Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp |
Magilla Gorilla, Ricciocet Rabbit, Hillbillie Bears. HAHAHAHA
Forgot Grizzily Adams, but that might not count because it came on at night first. Or was there a cartoon Grizzily Adams. I always wanted to be Grizzily Adams and have my own bear.
Thundar the Barbarian rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arial was totally hot. |
My 5 year old daughter only watches Boomerang!
She loves Dick Dasterdly and Muttley. She thinks she's funny when she laughs like Muttley. She knows no curse words, only "Drat and Double Drat!" I hate anything after the Smurfs. All things cartoon went downhill after that, IMHO. |
