Well?

We've been swinging from the right to the left and back again for as long as I can remember, with a general trend of both sides getting lefter.  So is it going to be the end of out little golden era come the next few elections?  Gawd I hope not.

edited title to limit things to just gun ownership.  I tend to be libertarian/darwinish on most things and want to avoid other topics right now because we (arfcommers) ain't ever going to agree on much else.

Really?

I didn't think they really had anybody. The Dems pander to their fringes, and can't seem to come up with a centerist candidate.

Who knows. I need a beer.

I think the Dems will float a pseudo-Centrist candidate and win.

Keep the faith.  While it is easy to be discouraged by all the stories in the news, I really believe the majority of Americans understand what is at stake.  I do not have a clue who will end up running for the GOP and that is a little unsettling.  I am pretty sure the dims will have Hitlery as their candidate.  While they think she has a very good chance of winning, they are wrong about most everything most all the time.  I know no one who would vote for her except my mother in law. She believes evrything she reads in newsweak and tyme, plus every story on cnn and msnbs.

Who knows. In the short term the Left might pick up a few seats here and there, especially if Iraq goes south or half of the Republicans in Washington go down over this Abramoff deal. However,  they'll be in trouble come 2010 when everything is redistricted. Several blue states are hemorrhaging  people - New York alone is set to lose 2 House seats and thus be worth 2 less in the Electoral College.

At the same time, red states are growing by leaps and bounds. For example, Texas and Florida both are predicted to GAIN two seats.

As much noise as the demoncats are making right now, I think in the long-run their position is a loser. Hopefully they don't drive us all insane in the meantime.

I was working away from home and drove 120 miles after work to get to my home town to vote.  God must have wanted me to vote because the trip down took only and hour 45min, weather turned right after I got there and it took 3 and a half hours to get back to Anchorage through the snowstorm.  I was only on my hometown for 15 minutes.

Just for fun, what would happen if Condy ran against Hillery? Imagine the lather the dems would get in!

"Um. Umm, well, I could vote Klinton, cause she's a she, and a dem, but would I then be discriminating against the oppressed African American woman? But then, she was an oil company director and worked for Bush! But Hillery stayed with that cheating bastard of a husband, thus betraying the sisterhood! I'll vote Condi. No, wait! She went to Ivy League colleges and did really well, so she's, wait... SHE'S BLACK AND FEMALE! BUT SHE WORKED FOR BUSH!!!  AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! SPLAT!

I'd vote for Condi.  She's pro gun, and kinda hot.  I just don't know if that is enough to carry her over when America is used to seeing as their leaders (grey haired white guys).

IF she is, it still takes alot of balls to be one.  I mean there cannot be a more shunned person than a female black conservative republican.  Women tend to lean towards the Democrats, Blacks tend to lean that way, a black woman should be, stereotypically a vehement Democrat.

I also look at it like this.  She is progun because her father defended his family with guns against racists.  Most people with that sort of experience tend to go the other way and hate guns because of the violence they witnessed and hate conservatives because they are somehow considered the party of racists (Democrats were the pro-slave ones, and Republicans were the anti-slave third party start up).  Condi has obviously thought through the initial knee-jerk reactions and has gone on to become one of the most powerful people in America.  I also admire her because she is out there doing her job and not espousing crap from the rooftops and using her position to promote herself and ideals (Klinton, Kerry, etc are all using their current positions to line themselves up for a shot or another shot at the presidency).

You need to look a bit harder then.  So your impression lends you to insult her off the bat and demean her ability and intent?  Before you judge her so fast, try looking into her a bit more.

I don't think we are "fucked".
And I do agree with your basic premise.  We do swing back and forth politically and the pendulum does seem to be gradually moving its anchor point a little bit further to the left each time.  GW did win the last two elections only by the skin of his teeth despite what some of the radio talk show hosts would like us to believe and it is very likely we will see a Democrat in the White House in '08.  More bad news is that the Dems have a really good shot at taking back the Senate.  The House will remain in the hands of the Republicans.
However, even in a worst case senario both houses will have to agree on any changes to current law.  Also, the nightmare of the Hillarybeast is, I believe, just that, a bad pipe dream.  I don't believe the Dems are going to challenge the Repubs with another Northeast Liberal. I think everybody realizes that that will just not work.  They will run someone like Bill Richardson from New Mexico and he will probably win.  The Dems will also stay away from gun control as a campaign issue.  Of course, this does not mean that they will refrain from cooking up trouble once they win the White House.
We are not "fucked", but we will face some challenges; no doubt about that.

That standard is starting to look a little bad, given Murthafucker, Kerry, and McCain's seeming desire to fuck the troops at every turn.  "Vet" on your resume for office no longer carries any weight with me, and I are one.   Those shitheads experienced the same political assrape they are giving the current military folks, and they need to get canned now.  NONE of them are worth a damn and would be clusterfucks as president.

Ron Paul is viewed as a fruit loop crackpot even by the GOP hence why nothing he has ever authored has even come out of committee.  HR 1703 was designed to fail.  The Brady parts of the bill eliminate somthing vital to GWB and the DOJ serving under him, 4473s.  Every federal agency goes through 4473s as a method of tracking just like bank transactions, toll cards, and anyhting else trackable electronicly.  Ron Paul also is on the GOP shitlist for his anti-war efforts, he would have to run as a Dem, as he would have 0 chance as a libertarian.  Generally speaking it is heresy for a libertarian to run as a Socialists.

We're screwed because the Republicans have pissed off their base bigtime which will effect voter turnout and it won't take much to swing it one way or another. The current investigation into congressional lobbyists and corruption will swing some undecideds to the left. I think we're screwed and when the next socialist administration takes over with a socialist Congress we are going to get reamed good. They will not wait, they will not delay. They are going to shove their agenda down our throats as rapicly as possible, incl the first efforts at gun confiscation.

In the midst of this the Stock Mkt will go down, entitlements will strangle the economy, and we are headed for both an economic collapse and WWIII in a decade or two. I am hopelessly pessimistic about it all, I know, but I cannot see how we are going to pluck victory from the jaws of defeat this time around.

I don't see why we would be. Pretty much everything at the national level has gone our way in the last 6 years or so. The AWB sunset without a renewal even making it to the floor in either house of Congress. We got PLCA. Nothing bad for us even made it to the floor. IIRC, news from the States is mostly good too, the  only exception being a little token BS in Liberal haven states like California. We're slowly picking up more shall-issue CCW states and no state with shall-issue has made a serious attempt at repealing it. I don't see any reason why these trends should reverse.

At the more political level, the Democrat party has lost big in pretty much every election since, what, 1994? They continue to lose even bigger every year. The Democrat party has also gone soft on gun control. There's still the usual gun grabbers, Feinstien and Schumer and all, but the Democrat leadership is all but silent on the subject, except for a few token appeals to "hunters" in election years. I don't see any reason why these trends should reverse.

Sure, the press has cooked up a few BS scandals. But they've done that every election, and the only effect is that more people realize that they're a bunch of lying whores for the far Left. Why should they have an effect now that they haven't had in at least a decade?

The media war seems to be going our way too. Sure, we still have the mainstream media being who they are, but their monopoly is gone forever, and their viewership is declining. We're having more effect rebutting them then ever - see Memogate. The thing is, their tactics have worked in the past because they were a monopoly. But even a small compromise of their domination will invalidate all of their efforts. I believe we have that with the advent of the Internet, Talk Radio, and some of the excellent books that have been published recently.

On top of it all, I don't see any reason why Liberals should start getting more support. It's becoming painfully obvious that they don't have any ideas, plans, or real leadership. It's nothing but the same tired accusations they've been making for the last 30 years, and some obviously concocted scandals.

I think it's going to be a good year.
