 Linky WASHINGTON (AP) - Former District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint at his apartment by some youths who had helped him carry his groceries. Barry, who wasn't injured in the Monday night robbery, said he gave the youths a couple of dollars for helping unload groceries from his car and they left. They returned, however, and after Barry let them into his Southeast apartment, they pointed a gun at his head and took his wallet, which contained cash and credit cards, Barry told WRC-TV. "Obviously, I'm traumatized. To have a pistol cocked in your face is not something you cannot feel emotional about," Barry said. Barry, 69, is a member of the City Council and served four terms as mayor. In his third term, he was videotaped in 1990 in a hotel room smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting. The following year, he served a six-month prison sentence. He is awaiting sentencing later this month in federal court on his guilty plea to two misdemeanor counts stemming from his failure to file income tax returns in 2000. |

I about fell over when I heard that this morning. What kind of idiot lets complete strangers help him into his house with groceries in the dark of night and then gives them "a few dollars"??? That is what sensible people call being "cased".
Given his history and the bizarre nature of the story, that is a more likely story. |

I was told be a cop when I lived in the area that there were still three legal, registered in '76 (I think that was the year) and grandfathered. He also told me all three were judges.
Of course, I also knew a DC cop that was on their anti-gun task force that thought that ALL guns were illegal in DC. And this was only a few months after the DC police had some sort of town meeting and showed people what types of guns were stull legal (some shotguns and some rifles). |

What do you want to bet that Barry will add to the Bloomberg chorus that the "fight for gun control" has to be taken to other states? Maybe it happened in the way he said, maybe not: I wasn't there. But it sure is convenient, though. ANd, Barry as mayor is certainly a role model - oh, that's right, for criminals. The kids were just doing what they see....

This is nothing but a campain ad for this guy. He must be running for office in DC again, hooker and crack got in him the last time.
He is trying to get empathy from DC residences with the "They stole my crack" angle. Happens to everyone , right ? |

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I that is unfortunate. I used to work with this older guy ex-USMC WWII who always carries a gun with him even though he didn't have a Calif CCW. He was always concerned about getting mugged or robbed.
