I have both, I like the 1 in 9 better. The 1 in 7 shoots shoots 77 grain Sierra grain hpbt bullets very nicely. The 1 in 9 likes the 69 grain ones better.

1/9 works with the common weights you will shoot.

Yeah, I've seen this re-hashed on the build it yourself board ad nauseum, but it's a valid question.
I think that if you want to shoot anything under 55 grains you will want the 1/9 twist. It is a good compromise, as you can still shoot somewhat longer and heavier bullets, yet you can still shoot the lighter varmint bullets too, at least down to 45 or 50 grains. Face it, you have a 5.56/.223... Most of the time you will be plinking or varminting with it, so versatility is nice. If you are lucky enough to live in a state that allows it for big game, you might want the 1/7 twist though... Hell buy one of each! |
