Being of German descent, I have always made Pork and Sauerkraut on New Years and still do. I now live in the South and many of my friends eat black-eyed peas, greens, and cornbread. Today, we get together and all make our own dishes for everyone.

What kind of traditional foods do the rest of you gun nuts eat on New Years Day?

Blackeyed peas, ham, cabbage.  The old timers (Cajuns) in my family used to put a few silver coins in the bottom of the cabbage pot to encourage the chillren to eat the cabbage.

My wifes family always makes cabage rolls and smoked suasage with  plenty  of beer.   This afternoon won't be pretty.

Corned beef and cabbage. It's an Irish thing. Supposed to bring good luck in the new year. I believe all it really brings is flatulence.

Don't forget the home-made "apple sauce" with that (chunky cooked green apples with cinnamon).

We don't have a traditional dish. Tonight is pasta and meatballs simply because its the kids birthday and she asked for that.

Black eyed peas, Smithfield ham that I cooked this morning, combined with home made baking powder biscuits washed down with Hussong's Tequila and Guinness.

If that isn't a good way to start the year, I don't know what is.

Me too, and so far they all suck.

Potatoes.  Potatoes are a great hangover food; that's New Year's food to me.

We just finished dinner.  We had baked ham, black eyed peas (for good fortune), greens (for wealth) and sweet potatoes.  It's been a tradition in our family for years.  We refer to it as "peas n' plenty."
