Gonzo's going to tell a "stupid hunter" story.

Was at the range one time, and watched a guy's lever action Marlin blow up in his face (he was fine).

Walked over after the smoke cleared and asked what happend.

"Dunno.  My 30-30 blew up.," he says.

At this point I was like,  Ummmmm, OK,

'Cause you see, the bore on that sum bitch warn't no .30 cal.

Turns out the old boy simply thought all "lever action" style rifles were 30-30.

So he bougth that there "30-30" from a friend of his, grabed a box of 30-30 shells and went to the range.

You guys ain't seen NOTHING until you see what a 30-30 shell looks like FIRE FORMED to a .35 remington chamber.   Although in this instance, the case couldn't  make it, blew out right above the case head.

Stupid shit.   At least he was wearing safety glasses.  

Oh, and the Marlin:  Just fine.   (I bought it from the guy then and there for $100 which is all he said he paid for it from his "buddy").

Which is why I knew the answer so fast.  

BTW, .35 rem is a pretty darn neat cartrige.   Has a nice RAINBOW shaped trajectory, dontcha know!

I myself have a pretty wild and obscure collection of single cartriges for guns I don't currently, never have, and probably never will own.

My coolest "collectable" is a .44 Henry Flat rimfire round I found in the basement of my 1890s era house when I was a kid.  Let me assure you, all attic and crawl space areas were THOROUGHLY searched in hopes of finding the rifle that thing went to.   But, alas, no luck.

Actually, its rather interesting to me that with all the "cowboy" matches out there, someone hasn't revived the .44 rimfire as a plinking round.
