Looks like its a day for fish stories.....

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Dec. 22, 2005 - A rainbow trout pulled out of Holmes Lake last weekend had double the chance to get hooked: It had two mouths.

Clarence Olberding, 57, of Lincoln, wasn't just telling a fisherman's fib when he called over another angler to look at the two-mouthed trout. It weighed in at about a pound.

"I reached down and grabbed it to take the hook out, and that's when I noticed that the hook was in the upper mouth and there was another jaw protruding out below," said Olberding.

He said in his 40 years of fishing, he's never seen anything like it.

Don Gabelhouse, head of the fisheries division of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, said a two-mouthed fish was new to him, too. "It's probably a genetic deformity," he said. "I don't think there's anything wrong with it."

The second mouth didn't appear to be functional, Olberding said. He has plans for the fish, which don't included mounting.

"I'm going to smoke it up and eat it," he said.

I would not want to eat something that was so obviously deformed... Who knows what caused that...

Do you think fishing the overflow pond by the nuke reactor might have had something to do with it??? Guess the 3 winged egrets missed this one!

When I was a kid, the  community sewer for the house we lived in drained into the creek that feeds that lake.

Also, they don't allow swimming in that lake, either, haven't for years........

Was a female fish.  Wore out the first mouth talking and sprouted another.

Probably because the last kid who did testicles fell off and he grew a third arm from the middle of his forehead.

Bada bing! If that's the case they should name it after my mother-in-law!

ETA- I don't think I'd be drinking the water around that area.

That's a Politician Trout.  They are native to all waters, but mostly in places where it is easy to spend other people's money and claim credit for being great while doing it.

I'd spend the money to mount it.

Yup.

The bad thing is that trout was probably stocked into that so called lake. (Its more of a pond last time I looked at it.)
