My day job is a Network Admin.
Tomorrow the North America regional Director is showing up to supervise my review. And we will be doing lunch. The company/location I work for is too cheap to give me an expense account, so anything I spend is out of my own pocket.

Would it be wrong to take him to Burger King?

Nope--but McDonalds would be cheaper--the dollar menu and all...

Even better than the BK idea....

Take him to an expensive resturant... order a very expensive plate..

Then cut out half way into the meal.

Oh, you wanna keep your job?

Probably not a good idea.. on both accounts.

Burger King sure tastes good, but it's not gonna impress anyone. I love BK's spicy chicken.

Maybe he'll think you're already getting paid all you're worth. Why should you get a raise? It will only drive up the cost of your company's product. They'll pass it on to the consumer. The consumer's cost of living goes up. Inflation will spiral out of control. Your company will out source your job and lay you off to improve profits for the share holders. You'll end up working at BK. You should be happy with what your company is paying you and not ask for more.

Or...

You could unionize and get pay raises without needing to prove anything!

A girl I used to date had a real cheap company.

She used to eat cans of tuna at work because she was on a diet.

I suggested that she tape the labels from cans of Little Friskies cat food onto the tuna cans to see what people would do.

"Well, I guess we can go to lunch now"

grab a brown paper bag, walk outside, sit on the curb and eat some peanut butter and saltine cracker sandwiches

"What, you didn't bring yours too?"

Finally, somebody whose palate is at the same socioeconomic level as mine!

Might I humbly suggest brown bagged "yours" and "his" potted meat sandwiches (that is, one sandwich cut diagonally: you each get half)  and a jug of "Dr. Thunder" cola?  You could also swipe some of those little salt packets from somewhere to add some zest to the meal.

Take him somewhere semi-reasonable.
If you end up with the bill, ask your manager if you can submit an expense report.
If he says no, keep the receipt for your taxes - un-reimbursed work expenses. That way, you will get at least 30% of it back.

So, submit an expense report for it. Only a few jobs have "expense accounts". But you can still submit expense claims.
