Pretty much, it's just a nice, reliable, cheap, and simple gun. It's just the favorite overall .22LR rifle. Like the Remington 870 is the quinticential (spelled that wrong i know) shotgun, the remington 700 is the favorite bolt gun, the glock is a favorite handgun, etc. Shawn |

They are cheap, readily available, accept high-cap mags, and have lots of aftermarket parts available. The barrels are stupidly simply to change, and they can be very accurate with an inexpensive aftermarket barrel. They are simple and reliable.
That said I bought a CZ 452 and I haven't shot my 10/22 since. |

You could say the same about the AR15 as well and its very popular too. I think criteria like that make rifles popular. |

And I would say your full of shit. An AR is not, at least by my definition, cheap. Otherwise, spot on.

People like them because they are the Small Block Chevy of the .22 world. You can do just about ANYTHING with a 10-22. Yes, you can spend $10k on one but you can also spend $3-400 and have a gun that shoots aspirin tablets at 50 yds with the right ammo, and nickle sized groups with the wrong ammo.

You can actually now build an entire 10/22 without using a single original Ruger part. There's that much aftermarket stuff. Besides. 10/22s float, for all those worrisome boating accidents. |

Granted there are lots of excellent .22 rifles out there. The 10/22 has probably been around longer than most. The amazing thing about them is, like AR's, you can buy a bone stock plain-jane model and do some damn accurate shooting with it. I have a standard 10/22 that I bought 35 years ago. Recently treated myself to a the top-of-the-line 10/22T. At plinking ranges there's no noticeable difference in accuracy. I don't know how Ruger could hit a home run with the 10/22 and strike out with the Mini-14.

I started with a top of the line 10/22T with a Bushnell 3200 5-15x40AO. Was never happy with its 1/2" to 1" groups with the most accurate ammo at 25yds. I chamfered the bolt, added a Volquartsen hammer only, and added a bolt buffer. I then replaced the barrel with a Green Mountain 20" fluted and put on a lightweight 4x Nikon Prostaff scope. Difference is night and day. Bettery balance, lighter weight and much more accurate. .2s and .3s or so with almost every ammo I tried including the high velocity hunting rounds. The 10/22 is the most customizable of the .22s. I liked the stock that comes on the T and sold the barrel so compared to a ground up build it ended up being a wash as far as cost. If you do not like the stock that is on the T then don't get it. It would be better to get the cheapest one you could find.

I've got a 10/22 I bought off the EE with a Stainless Green Mountain Bull Barrel. I'd like to switch out the barrel for one that's not Stainless - Anyone suggest any links to a site that shows how to change out the barrel ? Thanks! |

Everything about 10/22's at RFC. But, the barrel is just held in by a block and two allen screws under the receiver. Installation is reverse, except the barrel timing is determined by the alighnment of the bolt extractor and the extractor cut in the barrel breach, then tighten the screws. |

heres what i useally tell customers " you can spend 20% less but you will not get half the gun
( marlin 60 ) or you can spend 200% or more ( browning , T/C classic ) and not gain much besides fit and finish and before the marlins supporters chime in I ship back to the facotry at least 4-5 model 60s a year and 10/22s? maybe one if any |
