I have been thinking of buying a new rifle and I can't choose what one to get.

L1A1=$427
AR-15=$660
G3=$485
Cetme=$459

The money thing is not a problem also long as I stay under $700. I know there are going to be a lot out there that tell me to get the AR-15. But is there anyone out there that has any of theses gun's other then the AR-15? That can tell me how they compare to the AR-15. Thanks for the help.

Of the above type I'd say go with a FAL in metric mode. More parts and cheaper mags than the L1A1.

To the guys how said to get the FAL. Why do you like it more then the AR-15? And for GWIGG why do you say the AR-15 over the rest of the gun's.

Ya I have but the place I called and asked them what is the difference between the STG 58 and FAL they told me nothing just the price tag. I don't know if that is true or not but I'd like to find out.

I like the way the G3 looks but I have never heard anything about the gun. The FAL I heard was a great gun but I'd like to know how accurate they are.

weight does not matter that much to me I'm use to lugging around a 12ga with 9 rounds in it and a 20 inch barrel and a M1 grand (When my uncle taught me how to shoot in the Mississippi heat.)

I don't like the AK's at all just don't see the 7.62x39 ammo being able to have the long range shot's like the 223 or 308. like I said I have found a RRA AR-15 with a 20 inch barrel flat top and NM trigger for $660 and that is well in my price range.

But I do like the knock down power of the 308 also my dream gun from the time I was 10 was a M-14 now a M1A. The next gun on my list was between the AR-15 and another 308 rifle. I just don't know what to get I'm going more to the AR-15 because of the ammo being cheaper and upgrades.

As much as I prefer the .308 cartridge to the .223, I’d start with an AR-15.

It’s inherently accurate.  There are a bazillion accessories you can drool over.  You can add different uppers and otherwise morph it all sorts of ways.  The one you get would probably be better quality than the .308’s you’ve listed (debatable though – and obviously I’m not referring to an original FN or H&K).   And, most importantly if money is an issue, the ammo is much cheaper - you can shoot it a lot more.

Also, it’s the one that the anti’s are most likely to try to get banned in the future.  I’d get one now.  You simply can’t go wrong selecting the AR-15.

Your second rifle should be a .308.

I agree strongly with Forest’s first post but I might quibble with his second.  As Julian Hatcher (I think) once said: “only accurate rifles are interesting”.  If it’s an AK or nothing, then get an AK (groan!) – otherwise, for crying out loud get an accurate rifle, no matter what caliber!!
