What was the preatcher before he was a Preatcher that got him medical treatment on a govenment ship like he did when he got shot?

Probably the son/father of someone high up in the Alliance. Or possibly the King himself and he wanted to see how his subjects lived for himself.

Can't wait till Friday. Going to see Serenity then Into the Blue.

The series never covered it.

I saw the movie last night, and after it's over you can take a guess, but it's never fully spelled out.

Do you believe?

I believe he was a high level serious baddie with the Alliance, as in he probably tortured Browncoats, etc, before having a huge change of heart.

In the two-hour pilot, he instinctively delivers a throat strike to the armed bad guy. They don't teach that kind of thing to just anybody.

That was a question for the next season.

Book is a pretty interesting character.

"Doesn't the Good Book have something to say about killin'?"

"Yes, but it's somewhat vague when it comes to kneecaps."

He is recognized by the Alliance, and he knows how to handle weapons. Not your average monk.

Book was some some sort of high placed Operative. In "Out of Gas" when River "reads" Book he's says a rather cold and remorseless line.
