There are way bigger issues like illegal aliens and terrorism but even if we were to play pretend and imagine the FBI had time to police the internet, what would you prefer they crack down on?

Poll.  I can't add a poll to a thread that isn't mine.

Options I think are more important.

Oh, shit...I forgot viruses.  I would have included them with the option that included spam because I tried to lump together things that inflict themselves on me versus things I have to willingly become involved with.  And that's really what it's all about for me.  I can accept the consequences of exercising my own judgment but when something inflicts itself on me I don't like that.

(ETA and I would never want to restrict someone else from exercising their own judgment in terms of accessing internet content because I don't have the whole control/moral police thing going on)

FBI sucks.

Like Bose or McDonalds, they've just been good at marketing.

Porn.

ISP's and others are trying to combat the spam/pop-ups.

Music piracy there's no point in fighting.  Porn is more of an evil worth fighting. It's degrading and kids shouldn't have access to it(I'm not a parent but I bet that there are parents on the board that would agree with me.)

child porn should be made the priority IF they are going to crack down on porn.
leave the consenting adults porn alone.

Damn, I should have made an option for "illegal porn".

Which did you pick?  Did you count that opinion as "other/see below" or "porn"?

Couldn't we solve the whole "children looking at it" thing by simply making all pron websites operate under their own "." like .gov and .edu?  That way net nanny would easily be able to block out the pron and the Arfcom pron fiends could still get their fix.

Sounds easy and effective...but then the morality police would be temporarily out of a job until they found another orifice to stick their nose in.

That’s actually pretty good too but it requires some of that dreaded "taking responsibility".

Well I was kinda hoping they'd get jobs or something.

Not a bad idea.  Maybe they could go after illegal aliens or keep the streets safe from gangs, murderers, burglars, rapists and that kind of thing.

Nahhhh...better messing with consenting adults sexuality and stuff like that!

Aw, shit.  You're right. I forgot about the whole lack of personal responsibility fad that's taking place these days.

I can look at porn, and so what?  I get some wood?

But trojans and viruses can wipe out my computer, and destroy YEARS of work.

It can destroy a businesses records, databases, customer contact lists, etc.

It can destroy a scientist's research.

It can destroy a student's master's thesis work.

It can destroy a writer's latest work.

And much more.

If they really want to do some good, go after the guys that originate viruses, trojans, and adware.

Pop-ups/spam/spyware is just so-hammering the other categories that it's hilarious.

The Gov't need to get real with their priorities.

Awesome, thank you.  I'm glad you saw fit to differentiate that from "porn" by which I meant regular, legal porn.

There's a fuckton of computer crime, but you can't personalize it, or use it in an election, like you can bullshit like porn.

I'd prefer that the government not tell me what I can ingest in the privacy of my own home on any level.

I'd also prefer that they enforce some of the laws already on the books, like for instance, um I don't know, maybe illegal immigration.

CHILD porn

Viruses

Scams and fraud

DOS and internet "hooliganism"

and the old favs of white collar crime, bank robbery, kidnapping, and domestic terrorism investigation

The FBI has better things to do than attempt to determine what is "obscene" according to local community standards.
