Did you double click the little speaker icon in the system tray and move the sliders up?

What OS are you using?
In Windows, doubleclick on the speaker icon in the system tray. The little slider in the system tray (when you click the speaker one time) only adjusts the MAIN VOLUME. You need to check your "Wave" volume setting. It's probably cranked way low. If it's Music CDs that aren't playing loud, adjust the "CD Player" volume slider. Edit: Frickin' Specop  39 damn seconds!

Easiest way to explain it: control panel, sound options. Play there for a while, you should find it. |

What kind of speakers? If they are light shitty little desktop speakers, I wouldn't be surprised. If they are laptop speakers, I also wouldn't be surprised. |

I went in there; they are pegged at the top...
And yes, they are shitty little desktop speakers ("Polkaudio" that came with my HP). Really, the volume is audible, but not satisfying. I'm not looking for Spinal Tap "11" setting, but no joy here. |

Ya get whatchya get with little PC speakers. Go drop 100+ bucks for a good set and you'll get Spinal Tap 7. Hook up the PC to the home theater with 1000+ watts.....Spinal Tap 11. |

The wave was set to about 2/3.
My friend sent me a .wmv and I had to actually pick the speaker up and hold it to my ear to make out the dialog... |

Do the speakers you have require power? Are the speakers plugged in to the power (usually a transformer/wall-wort)? Is the power turned on? Are the speakers plugged into the right jack on the back of the PC?
I know these seem like dumb questions, but most "problems" like this are something simple. -Troy |

To echo Troy's reply, make sure the speaker plug is plugged COMPLETELY into the jack on the computer. If it's in just halfway, sometimes you'll get sound out of both speakers, but at a reduced level.

Find and reload your motherboard sound drivers. I have had this happen before.
