There's a deal with a local supermarket that gives you credit for buying grub there toward a price cut in gas.

Mrs Pic got curious and asked me to fill up and see what the deal was.

Swiped her card at the pump, and Lo and behold! $1.29/ gallon.

You can bet your ass I filled up!

We have the same deal with a local supermarket chain. If you compare prices to their competitors, it won't take long to see that you pay full price+ for that gasoline on the other end. But, it's a deceptively good feeling to pay less than $1.00/gallon for gasoline like I did on one fill up back in August.

When it was a dollar a gallon it was basically

.25 to get it out of the ground
.25 to refine it and get it to market.
.25 taxes
.25 profit

I remember .88 a gallon, but that was in 1999, when I got my drivers license.

Spent $179 at the gas station yesterday.  Filled the suburban and my pick up truck.

Paid $2.429 yesterday but that was probably the last gas station in my area to have that price. The others have already raised their prices to around $2.589. There were lines two to three cars deep and you could already see people losing their tempers as they tried jockying for open pumps.
