Looks like we will be taking a piece of a Cat 1 or 2 by tommarow.
It will then be in the gulf and we all know where we HOPE it won't be headed. Freezing big tubs of water in the freezer - check. Water and food ready to roll - check. Gas tanks topped off and propane tanks full - check. Tac bag and MP5 standing by - check. Doing the laundry and dishes - check. Getting the house ready - in progress.

Watch it slide up and nail NOLA again. Then they can blame Bush again. After the NG and 82nd pull out, they will cry that uncle sugar abandoned them.

Umm, why do anything? Haven't you learned ANYTHING from the past few weeks? Don't make any preparations or store supplies because your .gov will be there to help you out...... Oh, I forgot you are a responsible person and have listened to what you are supposed to do. If the people from NOLA did what they were supposed to do (evac and if you couldn't get out store food/water for AT LEAST 72 hours) there wouldn't have been such a problem. Good luck to you and yours down in SoFlo. I'm glad I got out of there over a year ago |

Ocala. Geographically still in FL but it is a different world up here. Spent all of my life in Broward county until August 2004. The funniest thing about it is that right after we moved up here we got slammed by 4 storms. |

That's what I was thinking today when the news was pointing out that Bush disagreed with Nagan about allowing residents in right now. If the hurricane hits over there again with residents trapped in their 'effed up city and more die, I guarrantee you that Bush would get blamed for the residents being allowed back in. Of course we all hope it spins off near Mexico and dies out... |

Tracking predictions show it coming right at Houston. Those people that fled N.O. may get to experience another bad boy by late Friday or mid-day Saturday.

Yeah, I'm here in Houston as well, ugggh.... this sucks.
With the "diversity" Houston has, I'm not too optimistic how citizens would act if it got like NO. This place floods like crazy just from large thunderstorms. A large part of the city was flooded during Tropical Storm Allison 4 years ago and that was only a 2 day tropical storm. What would I need besides the following: 1) meals for 2 to 3 weeks 2) a few cases of bottled water 3) flashlight/batteries 4) AR and or AK74 (probably take the 74). maybe 4 or 6 loaded mags do I need anything else? |

All kinds of stuff. Secure a grill (and propane or coals), bug repellent, NV if you have it. I personally like to kit out with 10 mags per rifle and an extra 200 rounds and if you have it a weapon light. Think "camping" and you will start to remember "must haves." Have all your shit in a corner ready to go and KNOW where it is in the dark. Turn your refrig and freezer to the lowest setting and freeze large containers of water. When the power goes put a few in the refrigerator. These will help both act like an icebox. Do all your laundry and dishes while you have electric. |

I have a radio that is also a light. This sucks though, not sure if my wife will be willing to put money down on a gas lantern, or something like that. My brother-in-law is gone for that weekend anyway, and I think I'll crash at his place. He has a nice grill in the backyard. Damn, and I don't have the money to get the tac-light I wanted for my AK right now. this sucks. I'll do the water freezing bit though, never though of that. |

Its a way of life, you should be used to it by now. How long have you lived here? ETA yes it gets tiring, but I expect it at least 3x a year. It can be a PITA bringing in all the crap from the yard. At leastt I dont have to worry about my windows. |

I have pretty much determined that as soon as we are finiancially able and wifey finishes her degree here, we're packing and heading for the mountains. The more I think about East Tennessee, the more I like it up there. Hurricanes have been a way of life for me since I was too young to remember, but I'm getting tired of it. |

Gets spent on meals and other freebie handouts too. But again I had those things ready to go in advance. Anw while I could go stand in line after the fact and get some things for FREE I'd rather not have to go to ghetto neighborhoods and stand in line all day with shitbags. Man I hope you're right. But which rescent hurricane did they miss the mark on when predicting it's path? Looks to me like they are pretty much right on the money. That really sucks for those of us in Houston. I wonder if I can get to the head of the line and apply for my $2000.00 credit card? Oh well. We've been lucky in that we haven't been hit since '83. Time to pay the fiddler. |
