I feel the need for a new gun, I'm looking for something cheap like under $100 for some sort of surplus rifle. I'm leaning towards a Moisan Nagant, a friend of mine bought one a while back, it was a pretty nice shooter.

Anybody have any better suggestion? I want a caliber that's pretty easy to get and doesn't cost a fortune. I'm a lefty so I probably wouldn't end up shooting it too much as most surplus type rifles are bolt actions.

I've got a 1898 Argentine Mauser, but that's the only surplus type rifle I have.

Yugo SKS, I bought one of the $99 specials from SOG and got one that was very good shape and shoots rather well.

Either an SKS, Mosin Nagant (long-rifle or carbine), Yugo/Turk Mauser, an Enflield here and there or even the surplus pistol route with Spanish Stars, Bulgy Makarovs, CZ-52's, etc.

14 guns total or 14 surplus rifles? I've already got about 18 guns, I just wanted maybe one or two more surplus types.

Schmidt Rubin K31...no finer surplus rifle exists for under $100, imho.

Stay the hell away from the Swiss K31's!  Until I have a chance to get a couple more.

The Yugo SKS's are cool, but I've already got a Norinco SKS that uses AK mags. I'm not against another SKS though, just think about something like the Moisan Nagant carbine.

They aren't surplus guns but I have a Star Firestar and a Star Model 30 both in 9mm.

Swiss K31, exceptionally  accurate, not a whole lot made and the supply is rapidly drying up, ammo isn't cheap but Wolf is supposed to be coming out with ammo for it.The others that are readily available at the moment are the Nagants,Mausers, and Enfields. All are good powerful cartridge, very cheap to feed with the exception of the Enfield, good accuracy. The M91,Yugo M48,and No. 4 would be my choice respectively. But the K31 is my first choice. The Yugo sks is also an option to consider, all machined no stamping, semi auto firepower and a respectable cartridge.

No kidding, I just want one with a nice blond stock, but everytime I go looking around I end up with another "not what I was looking for" K-31.

Feeding these is starting to get kinda $$$$

Skip all that shit and get an Enfield. Will cost more than $100 but definitely worth it.

I have about a dozen or so... started with Turk's, then Moisan Nagant's, then a couple Yugo Mauser's,  Yugo SKS, etc... The one I like to shoot the most is the Yugo Mauser. I like the shorter barrel guns. Some of them have 29 to 31 inch barrels.... Warning you can't have just one! These rifles are awesome!!!

I LOVE Enfields and have bought a few. I dont know if I have bad luck with them or what, but all I have purchased have had headspace issues. Trying to find the correct boltheads to bring the headspace into spec is an excersize in insanity

What kind of gauge are you using? You know the SAAMI spec isn't correct right? I usually just use a field gauge nogo and if it passes it's fine.

BTW, I'm partial to the cheap VZ-24's at Dunham's sporting goods, but you have to get lucky and find one with a good barrel(no counter-bore) and be able to clean the stock. They have a beautiful butter smooth action and saw alot of action on the eastern front, mostly with Romania, against the soviets. Great pieces of history.
