Say this week end.  Gas is too expensive.  No camping in state parks, no motels, no shopping, no buying gas, no baseball games, nothing.  Just stay home and surf ARFCOM.

What would it do?  Patty

Not a damn thing. Seriously.

Nothing bad, because then 95% of the people would go buy whatever they didn't buy during boycott time a few days before or a few days after.

It would average out.

We would probably just spend our money other ways, buy an ARFKOM membership, order pizza delivered, buy stuff on the web.

US citizens are consuming animals.

So what you're saying is we lack the self control to stage a true strike if you will?

Its too bad but you're probably right.  I think IF pulled off it would be very devestating to the economy and it would be all Bush's fault.

The thing that really screws us is that any oil that we don't want to buy at the inflated price China is more then willing to pick up. If we didn't buy all that Chineese crap that they send over here then they'd not have the money to buy all that oil and the price would stay down a bit.  Either way, we're screwed if we do and we're screwed if we don't.

No. Even if we didn't spend one red cent over the upcoming 3 day weekend, the economy would do just fine. Snopes did a pretty good job of illustrating why, when debunking the gas-strike nonsense.

yep, kinda like the farmers.  I don't think farmers could farm and make a living any longer if they weren't working the system.  Its mind boggling how much subsidize this and that that's going on.

We're such a socialist state its not even funny.

Montgomery, AL bus strike of the last 1950s. Bunch of black peeps and some whites did not ride the buses for months.  THAT finally did something.  One would probably need to reduce a company's revenue by 33% for 1 fiscal quarter for them to care.

I'm just guessing...

We were driving up to NC to visit family, but that might be out the window now.  We'll see how gas supplies are in a couple of days.  It's not the end of the world if I have to pay $3/gal to get there and back, but I don't want to be stuck with a low tank in the middle of nowhere and not be able to buy gas or have to wait 4 hours to buy it because of a shortage.

They would crap, if most people did it. They are constantly trying to stir us up so we go out and spend money to feel better.

sure but they took in account for a normal week.  This is labor day week end.  I'm sure there would be a surge before and after but if everyone just stayed home Labor Day week end -- I would think it would impact us.
