The Parade Ground of Corregidor Island was designted as Drop Zone 1. It was here where 2,000 paratroopers landed in order to retake Corregidor from the Japanese.
(Note: Fronting the marker is the Parade Ground. To the right of that, is the Mile Long Barracks.Hopefully the photos are clear enough so that you can read the names of the specific units who participated in the assault.)
MILE LONG BARRACKS
A very long structure / barracks. Hence the name.
(Note: The original insignia of the unit is still visible in the facade of the barracks.)
MIDDLESIDE BARRACKS
BATTERY SMITH
MALINTA TUNNEL
Constructed from 1922 to 1932. Malinta Tunnel has a main tunnel 835 feet long and 24 feet wide. It has 24 laterals branching out from it. Originally an arsenal and an underground hospital, its unique location under the Malinta hills made it an ideal bombproof HQ.
LORCHA DOCK
The dock where Gen. Douglas McArthur rode one of four PT boats to take him to Australia.

I would love to tour Corregidor in person. Wish Clark AFB was still open so I could be stationed there.

Better download the pics guys. That will probably be the last surviving "cannon fortress" you'll ever see. War is too mobile nowadays. If you stay in one place, you will get destroyed.
