08/21/05 - The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59) fires its 5-inch Mk 45 lightweight gun during a Pre-aimed Calibration Fire while underway in the Pacific Ocean on Aug. 21, 2005. 08/08/05 - From left, the guided missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), the Military Sealift Command (MSC) fast combat support ship USNS Bridge (T-AOE 10), and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) perform a connected replenishment at sea (CONREP) for transferring fuel and supplies in the Persian Gulf on Aug. 8, 2005. The Nimitz Strike Group is currently on a regularly scheduled deployment and is participating in Maritime Security Operations (MSO), which set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. 06/23/05 - USS John S. McCain (DDG 62) and USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) steam in formation in preparation to fire the ship's 5-inch guns during a ship sinking exercise on June 23, 2005. Accompanying USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and of the Hawk carrier strike group, guided missile destroyers, like the John S. McCain and the John Paul Jones, provide the Kitty Hawk strike group with anti-submarine warfare combat capability. Cowpens is currently operating in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia's Queensland region aspart of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2005. A combined U.S. and Australian command post and field training exercise, Talisman Sabre demonstrates the U.S. and Australian commitment to the military alliance and regional security. I've deployed on 3 of the ships in the pics, a destroyer (Fife), LHD (Coronado) , and a carrier (Constellation).  Ah, the memories.....
