so, was that written by Maiden's PR people?
Not a whole lot of proof of anything in that missive. A couple of buddies of mine went to Ozzfest when it was here a month ago...everything was sweetness and light at that show. |

That story is admittedly biased towards Maiden. But if you check out any one of a hundred metal-related forums today, you'll find that what they describe is what actually happened. There are also LOTS of MP3's of the show out there.

I totally agree with you Dolomite (don't see that every day). I am as patriotic of a flag-waving American as anyone, but Bruce waving the Union Jack is no slap to my face. That's just Sharon Osbourne's attempt to pit American's against "foreigners" (which she is). It didn't work!

Anyone who would get offended by Iron Madien waving a Union Jack has absolutely no fucking idea about anything heavy metal.

IIRC - for years after 9/11 they backed their flag with our own.
(They didn't do that at Ozzfest at Alpine Valley this year though) Obviously Mrs. Osbourne was upset that people started leaving after IM finished playing. Hardly their fault. Black Sabbath wasn't that bad, and Ozzy sounded fairly decent for a guy that should be dead. If I were to criticize Sabbath it would be for taking all those old, beautiful, and brilliantly quick, Sabbath songs and dragging them out into 8 minute jams. |

After reading some of the posts on that Anthrax forum...it sounds like this was a planned retaliation by the Osbornes, for Bruce Dickinson making a derogatory comment about the Osbornes "reality" television show.
I like Ozzy...but this is fucking disgusting. Maiden is one of the all time great heavy metal bands, and they deserve to be treated as such. |

Never been a huge maiden fan, a little before my time, but Steve Harris is a fucking monster bass player. Got to see 'em live once, they fucking OWNED. Sharon, the side-stage bands, the crew, BLS etc that took part all need their asses kicked. Sorry cocksuckers, every last one. |

If you're referring to Iron Maiden as "geriatric", then: There's nothing funnier than some snot-nosed kid who thinks he knows everything and thinks that metal started with Limp Buzzcut, Slipknot or some other POS new metal band.  If on the other hand, you're referring to Ozzy/Sabbath as such: You're still the above, but they are getting pretty old and wrinkled and I'll give you that much.  The fact of the matter is, both Sabbath and Maiden have influenced most of the bands that are popular today (but it's too bad today's bands weren't influenced not to SUCK). Sabbath and Maiden have been around since the 60's and 70's, respectively. And they'll probably still be around LONG after these still teet-sucking talentless punks of today are LONG gone. |

Wow, Ozzy actually performed at an Ozzfest show.
A decade ago he cancelled two shows in Frsno, CA. The second was the make-up show for the first one. They tried to book a third show, and no one would have it. After he can't do Ozzfest anymore or any other touring (which he shouldn't be doing now), I wouldn't be suprised if Sharon starts trying to book him at the casinos in Vegas to try and squeeze a few more dimes out of her meal ticket. |

Randy Rhoads was my first guitar hero. I learned everything that he did on his two albums with Ozzy before graduating to harder material (Yngwie Malmsteen, Allan Holdsworth, classical, etc). Randy was a player's player. Not ONE of these snot-nosed punks in today's metal bands is of his caliber. Zakk is pretty damn good, but still not Randy. And that dood from Creed (Mark Tremonti) is pretty decent, but no cigar. Randy put Ozzy on the map. If not for him, Oz would have disappeared after being fired from Sabbath. He really doesn't have much talent, but he knows it when he sees it, and hitches a ride with it. Anyways... Maiden still rocks with the best of them. I always loved "Peice of Mind" and had kind of forgotten about them for the past decade. But a month ago I got all of the newer albums at it's all pretty good stuff. "Dance of Death" is awesome, and as good as any of their earlier work. They're kickin' ass again... |

When Metalica came to Fresno touring for "And Justice for All", the next Monday at my school (HS)there were a bunch of people wearing Metalica shirts who had never been into metal before. It was when "One" was being played on MTV all the time. My friend is at his locker, and overhears some kids talking about Metalica after going to the show. "Man, that's pretty good for a bands first album". My friend just started screaming at this guy, cramming Metalica's history down his throat. He finally told him to go home and burn that t-shirt, or give it to someone useful.

Well, we all have different tastes. Of course at my age, I no longer listen to any of the rock music. Modern rock sucks. I'm just surprised people still go to these concerts. Somehow, I can't picture myself going to a concert where the band was popular 20 years ago. I guess I just think these clowns who act all tough and shit are losers. Same goes for old punk. I'd laugh at them today. These guys are getting eggs thrown at them and fighting with Sharon Ozzborne? Come on, both sides need to grow up. "Tough guys" always make me laugh. |
