This afternoon I get a frantic call from my mother, she is crying, saying that one of our dogs, Lady, is dead. This dog was her baby and we have had her for quite a while now.

Well......we jsut moved a couple of months ago and we had to dispatch a few alligators, one over 6FT. This what killed Lady today.

I do not condone killing animal for no good reason, so if you want to bash me for unleashing the rath of my AR on this pest so be it. I really don't care

This our backyard, the canal in the foreground is where the alligators have been found.

This was Lady, a medium sized lab mix

The culprit

He was a little over 4Ft long. He went under when I approached him and not wanting to get away( I was pissed) I started unloading into the water. He came back up and thats when i split his skull.

I love all my animals, don't fuck with them.

How did you positively ID him as the bad guy? Just curious, good shoot either way for me. I wouldn't want that near my home regardless.

That gator got his fucking wig split! HEADSHOT!

RIP Lady

ETA: From the looks of that divot on the ground it seems you split his skull after you put him on land.  Care to comment?

Well, we hadn't seen any in a while, and then my little sister saw one a couple weeks ago, and Lady was bitten pretty badly.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but...
Would this thing be a hazard to children in the area? Are they a menace in your parts, or is this rare?

The alligators are not a rare occurance, attacks on people are though. I kill everyone I see, I have 10yr old sister that I don't want the same thing to happen to.

I would have done the same thing, but let me ask you this, did you guys move to an area known to have alligators?

I only ask because people here in AZ want to move out to the middle of the desert, then get all pissed off if they encounter a rattle snake or something like all the snakes and shit should somehow dissapear just because they want to live there.

There were gators in our front canal, but this canal was dug when our temporary house was built as a means of drainage. They seemed to have crossed over

In Louisiana and Florida if you are within the state lines chances are you are very close to an alligator.

Sorry about your loss.

What are the local laws about killing alligators in your area?  Do they have to be a threat or are you allowed to shoot them on your property?  In S. Florida they are pretty tough to shoot legally.

Sorry dude.  Know how you feel.  My g/f lost a wonderful TRAINED  black lab  due to an alligator at her pond.  The pond is about 40 yards from her house and a couple gators just showed up one day.  She and the  kids were devastated to the family's loss.    Because of kids and pets, the pond stays alligator-free now.

BTW- nice shot

If it bothers you that much, you should consider moving.
