Stunned waitress gets Porsche as tip in Sweden

Agencies
Posted online: Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 1815 hours IST

Stockholm, August 18: A waitress in Sweden thought her elderly customer was joking when he offered her his Porsche as a tip, but he kept his word and gave her the keys to the car, daily Aftonbladet reported on Thursday.

“I thought at first he was joking with me,” 19-year-old Josefin Justin told the paper.

Justin was waiting tables at the Njuraanger cafe in sundsvall in Central Sweden when the man, who had recently retired and was dining with a group of gentlemen, asked her age.

When she told him, “he said I would get his Porsche as a tip”.

I'd be willing to bet he had intentions of giving her another "tip" as well.

You know how those old men are, especially wealthy ones with access to Viagra or Cialis.

A typical tip I got as a cabbie was 'Plant your corn early.'

Did you respond to that with "Don't step in front of my cab when you get out"?

One guy actually told me to put $10 on 'Happy Boy' in the 3rd race. He was heading south for R&R.
He actually offered me choice, a fat tip or that he's place a bet for me on some damned nag.

I laughed and told him to place the bet.

Damned if he didn't return and look me up with an envelope full of cash for me!

The longshot nag he put my tip on came in first!

I'll give him this, he was honest as the day is long.

I miss Alaska, the place was chock full of characters.

It's a 924. He's not doing her any favors. I speak from experience.

I thought it might be a new or good porsche.  That thing is old and a POS.  Wait until the girl has to fix the thing then she will not like owning a porsche.

The old man liked the waitress asked how oldshe was, decided since he couldn't wind it up anymore

why not give it tosomebody that could use it!!!

Not so strange as I have given many things away that I no longer need!!!!

To many life is not about how much you can obtain, but how much you can pass on!!!

Sort of like paying it forward!!

I have oftend thought of makeing a coin that says PAY FORWARD,and everytime you helped someone out of a tight spot!   You would simply hand them this coin ,and ask that they do the same in kind!!!

That coin and the human experience of trying to help another, would do wonders in this Dog eat Dog world that we dwell in!!!

Not if it was a 924S.  944 drivetrain and suspension on a 924 body.

Yes because then it would have a whopping 147 hp on the uglier body which results in a full 4 mph top speed difference. Some trade off.

But even worse, the guy gave her a (fairly beat looking) 1979 924 that if I recall correctly put out about 98-105 hp. Yep it's that bad.

The article estimates it's value at $4000 but that's a damned pipedream, I didn't pay that for mine almost 20 years ago...and it was the relatively rare Martini and Rossi 'Weltmeister' edition commemorating Porsche's world championship.

Enjoy your "tip"! Poor girl.

Not to mention that she'll have to deal with an old smelly guy trying to nail her since he was so "generous" with his, ahem, fine automobiles.

Dollars to doughnuts this guy's only intentions are to hit it.

Why else ask her age?

Probably made a bet with the other business gentlemen.

Sometimes guys earn our reputations with the ladies.

BTW, I agree:   What a piece of shit car anyway.

Do tell, have you ever found out the top speed of your cars?  I mean, gone out and done it?  944s can and do leave for dead most cars with twice their HP because they handle amazingly well.

BTW, I know exactly how fast my old '44 would go.

Define 'leave for dead' because neither will beat most modern minivans in a stoplight dragrace. Sad but true.

Sorry but 924's just aren't very fast cars.

In fact they're neither particularly fast or quick, which is what you get when you mate 2.0 liters of Audi fury pushing out 98 ponies at the crank.

Not that it matters one iota but I had my car up to an indicated 110 mph (or therabouts) one night. It might have had a little left but I wasn't on the salt flats so I wasn't going to push it.

Yes 944's handled amazingly well for their time but they're not powerful cars by any stretch of the imagination.
Porsche indicated top speed was 137mph and some tests didn't even get that, of course later models got more power (S, S2, turbo) but the original 944 while a truly beautiful car to look at and a blast to drive just aren't that fast.

If you don't believe me go to Rennlist.

I always liked the styling of 944's and I really enjoyed driving my 924 for almost four years despite the almost weekly thrill of wondering what was going to break next. In fact it's still parked in a field at my parent's farm in Alabama.

I'm sure it was a nice and well meaning gesture but a 25 year old 924 will not be a cheap or reliable car for a 19 year old waitress to own.

I can tell you that MY 944 got within 2 mph of the factory-advertised top speed.  I'd call that within the margin of instrument error.

AHAHAHA.  Socialist country.  I didn't live in Sweden but did live in Finland and the tax on cars was damn near 100%.  A frickin VW Golf cost over 25K when i was there thirteen years ago.
