The report says that McNeilly treats his son more like a friend than a son, and "sees the child as a counterpart in his military adventures."

It also questions some of McNeilly's correspondence to his son while on active duty.

McNeilly said one postcard showed a soldier holding a gun. Another showed a soldier spearing a tire as if it was an enemy.

He may have used better judgement here

The court report says McNeilly also told his son how to kill people in multiple ways, and that he wrote his son "the next time someone touches you and leaves bruises on you - I'll be ready."

15 month tour in Iraq and the courts reward him by stripping him of shared custody of his 10 year old.

A picture of a soldier holding a gun, WTF? It's not like he was sending home pics of decapitated iraqi children.

I hope this guy gets full custody.

Ridiculous. My step-son's father is in the service. He sent him that sort of stuff all the time while he was in Iraq. It didn't make him a bad dad at all. It explained to the boy what his dad was doing.

This sort of crap right along with the stuff out of New London, makes me wonder where the breaking point is.

He should have known better than to interfere with the emasculation process on his son.

Everything is backasswards and the tail wags the dog. Any illusion that it can be fixed via the political process is laughable. I think there's a missing link here. I think the article was written to infuriate the conservatives. Think about it. Can a father have custody of their children while in active duty? I don't think so. Most commonly they have to relinquish their rights prior to being shipped out? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Joey's mother, her lawyer and the Ingham County Friend of the Court say McNeilly lost custody because of his parenting skills, not his deployment.

Don Reisig, director of the Ingham County Friend of the Court, said confidentiality laws bar him from saying much about the case.

Erb's lawyer, Theresa Sheets of Lansing, said Erb wanted full custody because she no longer found McNeilly to be a fit father.

Sheets added that there's more to her client's claims of McNeilly's poor parenting skills but she declined to elaborate, saying she didn't want to disparage McNeilly.

A hearing set for Wednesday before Ingham County Family Court Judge Janelle Lawless has been postponed.

So they can trash this guy, then run behind "confidentiality" when it suits?

I'm sure "Judge Janelle" will be fair and impartial until she rules in favor of the woman.

They take a man out of his job and away from his family, stick him in a warzone for 18 months, tell him to kill the enemy and then take his son away from him because what this man does for a living isn't appropriate for his son to know about? This makes me want to cry. Why do we insist of fucking our troops?
