My walmart just got in some new 223 ammo. Federal 50 grain hollow points. 200 rounds per box. Box costs $49.98

ETA: Since I know someone will ask eventually. Last word I heard on the 40 round winchester stuff is that it should start trickling back in sometime in september.

That price seems high for only 200 rounds

How much does 50 grain hollow points usually go for?

(If my math is right, ...)

If you got 500 rounds at your Walmart, it would cost you $3.50  ~$8.00 more than an order from ammoman.com ( for a Federal 50 grain hollow point).
Assuming a 6% tax rate.

Sounds like a very good deal.
I'd buy it if mine had it.  It's worth a bit extra to be able to get it when you want it,  as in NOW.

eta:

223 FEDERAL 50gr.
HOLLOW POINT
sealed cardboard case 1999
BOXER PRIMED

$129-500 rounds.

The $129 is total, to your doorstep.
or

$239-1000 rounds.

I know that as the white box goes, hollow point cost double what FMJ does. So, if this new ammo goes the same route with FMJ at half the cost, that would be $15 cheaper per 200 than the Winchester 40 round packs.
