From what I heard on it, it was into Hong Kong... dangerous airport to land into in the first place and there was a HUGE crosswind that day to add on that.

Yep.
I heard thats considered a "normal" landing for that airport cause the runway juts out and usually has a nasty crosswind.

Yep, normal landings at the former Kai Tak International, closed July 1998.  Look around on Google, the checkerboard approach was crazy!  No emergency in that vid either AFAIK.

Lots more like that here:

www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm

That's an extreme crosswind landing.

In a smaller aircraft you can keep one wing down to compensate for drift, but you can't do that in something that has long wings/pylon mounted engines since you'd scrape on touchdown so you keep it in the crab until the last second and then "kick out the crab" to center up for landing.  They had to not only do that but fly a turning approach to get into position.

Yeah, it would be a wild ride.

I once landed at Imperial, CA in such a strong crosswind that I had to ask my dad (who was in the right seat) to lean back so I could get a good look the runway on short final.    Aircraft was an Aerospatiale Rallye (serious STOL with full leading edge slats, HUGE Fowler flaps and trailing beam main gear).  I could fly that bird right off the bottom of the airspeed indicator and still have excellent control.

Don't tell anyone, but that site has boobies in some vids.
That upside down breastfeeding vid was hilarious though.

You need a realistic 747 in the sim to try it with.  Unfortunately, the only scenery for Kai Tak is a POS.  Mainly because it's closed and not too many people care about trying it.

The only realistic 747-400 for MSFS 2004 (FS9)

Yeah thats the Runway 13 approach to the old airport in Hong Kong, Kai Tak, it required a 47 degree turn on final approach, lots of approaches ended up like that on days with heavy crosswinds.
