He scribbled down some notes and wants me to check if these specs will be sufficient.  
To me, they look like the "minimums" for computers nowadays, but I haven't specifically shopped for laptops before, so I don't know.

Look at the IBM line.

Rock solid and very well built compared to the others.

Think R51 or

T43 (42?)

You can get that for 1700; check the video and get a bigger HD.

We have about 50 IBM ThinkPads in the field with our sales staff. They are damn near bulletproof and ALMOST user proof. We have mostly R50/51/52 in use and a couple of the new X-40 series.  They may not be as flashy as some but they work ALL the time.
