I just finished reading the book "Shadow Divers" by Robert Kurson.  It tells the true story of how two Atlantic deep wreck divers, John Chatterton and Rich Kohler, discover the wreck of a WWII U-boat around 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey at a depth of roughly 230 ft.  The problem is that all records and historians indicate that no German boats were lost anywhere near the wreck's location.

The discovery hurls them into a series of dangerous dives that ultimately result in the deaths of three divers and a maze of research through U.S. naval archives and interviews with WWII submarine experts and even a former U-boat commander to discover the boat's identity.

The book captures you within the first few pages and leads you through the men's obsession.  Eventually their effort to retrieve artifacts to add to their collections ends and they are overcome with the desire to put a name with the wreck and identify the sailors' remains found on board.  Overall, it is an excellent book that ultimately puts you in touch with the brave men who crewed the U-boats when most never returned from their war patrols.
