.....in a car accident.   He was 19yrs old and a former student of mine.  He graduated in 04 and finished basic in April.  He was excited to go to Iraq, and was in high hopes of making it to SF school.  He was so proud to come back and show me his uniform and how great a shape he was in.

He was an all around great kid and I will miss him.

I got an update last night.   It seems that four young girls in a dealer loaner car ran a stop sign and plowed into Mike's car as he was driving into town at about 11pm local time.   He was life flighted to Billings, but died yesterday morning at about 10am.

Reminds me of how lucky I am to have lived this long.  Too bad for the kid and his family.  Sucks.

That is such a shame...

Just a reminder - life is short and tomorrow's never guaranteed..

biggest killer of marines ain't ali baba's, it's leave.

the marcor's beginning a new policy of starting and ending leave during daylight hours to minimize marines driving at night. it's a small thing but it might save a few lives...

sorry about your loss...

I found out today that he was home on leave for this weekend to be the best man in a wedding.  He was do to ship out to Afganistan later this fall.   The wedding was today.  I doubt it was a very happy one.

Dang, no kidding.

I'll bet there was a somber mood through out what should be a very joyous occasion.
