OK, I don't normally watch TV (other than the Food Network) but I'm eating lunch today and flip channels - I hear "gun" talk.  I stop.

I am watching "The District", about the DC police department, headed by Craig T. "Coach" Nelson.

So, he's talking in his office with one of his best friends, who just got the ever-loving shit beat out of him by a band of young thugs.  So his friend asks for the Chief to sign off on an application for a handgun, so he can protect himself.

Chief says, "No - it might get taken away from you and used against you."  So his friend says, "Sign it, or I'll drive to VA and buy one."  Chief says, "If you do, I'll have you arrested."

Nothing else happens till the end of the show, where the Chief meets up with the guy in a coffee shop for breakfast, and the friend says, "Well, I didn't buy the gun, because if I did, I'd probably end up using it."

There went my lunch.

WTF?  So, its ok to get the shit beat out of you, but buying/using a firearm to defend yourself or others is worse?
