Tonight we will be doing a long needed upgrades to a number of web services and site code.
What does this mean for you? First off it means the site will come down later tonight (goal is midnight) for an hour or so. During this time all our extended services will remain functional, such as chat, mail, and photos. Here are some items of note for what to expect when the site returns: - Numerous fixes and tweaks All done to improve performance, fix problems, etc. - New Interface/Design A brand new design will be launched, with an easier navigation and a cleaner look. - Skins TEAM MEMBERS will now enjoy the ability to select one of many skins to change the site colors. Initially there will be 6 skins (including the default gray) with more coming in the future. - JobRelatedStuff / Alternate URL Cleanup Any of the backdoor URLs into the site will now load up the JobRelatedStuff graphics, including cleaned news icons with no firearm images. - New Subscription Manager The subscription portion of code has been rewritten and a simple manager has been added to help you keep track of your subscribed threads. Guests will be limited to 5 threads at one time, while team members and staff will be limited to 25. - Upgrade To Admin Tools Ok so this is for the staff, but I know they've been waiting for a while for some new tools and changes to existing tools. Give the poor guys some credit for all the stuff they do!  - Global variable fixes Only thing that matters here is FINALLY the post counts will work on the main forum listing page.  - WAP Friendly (no graphic) Read Only Version This will NOT make it into the release tonight, but it's almost done and should be live within a week. This version of the site is intended for portable devices and for quick and clean office reading. The entry point for this version has yet to be definied. (New URL? Subdomain off existing domains?) There's a lot more to this, but this pretty much highlights some of the more popular items. It's also the stuff I could think of at the moment.  Hopefully the upgrade will be short (15-20 mins), but I figured and hour in case things go slow.Team members can check the team forum thread for more information which was posted earlier in the week. |

damn.. and here i was thinking the only time i could get away from arfcom was when a took a crap in a port-o-john by the side of the road ... now this damn website will follow me there also .. damn it !!! hey goatboy... will we be able to post from the wap site? and pls keep the url short.. sucks typing on the phone keypad.. also this gets me to get a membership and donate to the site,, < the wap access.. pls make it so we can post also... kinda meant dont make the GD site something like this... http://ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=1&f=5 my input would be... dont make "wap.ar15.com" go to the main page then we would still have to navagate to the GD forun .. just make the wap.ar15.com go directly to the GD forum .. 9 out of ten people that will access it thru the wap site will want to head there anyway,,,

I knew I should've saved a copy of the "penis logo."
But the default skin is way too dark.... And how about the Search on GD? Right now some moron gets some worn out crap shoved in their inbox and after looking at the first two pages in GD decides his "Doctors are more dangerous than Guns" story is brand new and needs to be shared with ARFcom. Being able to search GD sure would cut down on the dupes.

I got normal setup on my monitor (one is higher gamma, other is base) and it's real easy to read... I will adjust the colors tomorrow to a higher contrast to make it easier on people... some colors are a bit dark, but not near unreadable. Colors are the toughest thing on the web since people have their pcs too high, too low, and so forth. We'll see how things look tomorrow.
