No where near as good as LOTR, but still a good film. I recommend it.

It has Excellent action, good story, but cheesy dialogue in some places

read any of the SW review threads here!

I personally recommend you see it.

No, it's not as good as the LOTR movies... But not much is.

I agree with SevenMMmag and macman37.  It was a good film for action, visually stunning, and the storyline soared to the heights of mediocrity.  However, the dialog was melodramatic and contrived in numerous places and the ending seemed rushed in an effort to tie everything up into a nice, neat package for Episode IV.

No comparison to any LOTR film but still far better than Episode I or II.

I didn't see Episode I or II on the opening day/weekend, but waited for the crowds to die down.  But as it happened I had a meeting away from the office yesterday that ended early & was close to a multiplex, so on a whim I caught a matinee showing of it.

I loved it.

FTR, I saw the original with my Dad when I was ten and loved the original trilogy but I was underwhelmed with Ep. I & II.  Ep. III, IMHO, ties everything together as well as I could have hoped for.  Lots of emotion and plenty of wink, wink, nudge, nudge references to what is "yet to come" in IV-VI for folks like me who grew up on this stuff.  I actually teared up a few times.

Mild spoiler alert (if you've been living in a cave somewhere ):
IMO, the only thing that would have been better would have been the graphic, painful death of the one who's name shall not be mentioned - but, mercifully, he is only shown briefly (and silently) near the end.

Better than LOTR? Not by a Damn Sight.

Better than the first two StarWars Prequels? By a LONG DAMN sight.

Totally worth the price of the ticket for 142 minutes worth of entertainment, the best 5 of which was Natalie Portman's character kicking off. That young lady, whilst having a nice body,  is just a horrid, horrid actress. Some of the dialog between her and Anakin was just awful. The only thing that would have been more entertaining would have been the slow disemboweling of Jar Jar Binks, but thankfully he's only in the flick for about ten seconds toward the end and never speaks.

But hell, I wasn't going to see high art, but rather shitloads of light saber duels and shit blowing up and to be entertained for a couple hours or so.  I wasn't disappointed. The CGI, which I am not ususally a fan of, wasn't just good, it was simply amazing.

As an aside, though, I did find it funny how a badass such as Vader started out life as a Sith as a sniveling pussy.

All in all, good flick.

Although being a typical euro, he probably isn't surprised by how Jackson pandered to the American public. People find hidden anti-bush sentiment in star wars but can't see how the foreign director insults their intelligence.

Hell, Harry Potter was better than LOTR. Though I think Chris Columbus took too many of the criticisms of the first film to heart when he made the second. And it shows. He addressed the critics and made a worse movie. Still, it was truer to the base material than LOTR.
