My wife and I both turned 50 in the last 6 months and most of my friends have turned or will turn 50 this year. Kind of thinking about what is cool about being 50.

1. Drinking age was 18 in high school and throughout college.
2. Too young to go to the Viet Nam war but old enough to have seen it's impact on our society.
3. You remember all the stuff from the  60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and a little of the 50's.
4. You don't care what people think about you anymore.
5. Good beer, good wine, good scotch, good cigars.
6. You can afford all the toys and stuff you couldn't when growing up.
7. You don't give a rats ass about TV shows or hollywood actors
8. You had a chance to experience the Reagan Revolution.
9. You or your friends may have had one of the original muscle cars from the 1960's/early 70s
10. You realize that the destination isn't as important as the journey.

Life is good

If you reach fifty and are still alive … It’s okay you don’t have to grow up.

The only cool thing about 50 is that it is not 60...

Grow old gracefully… what a lie.

Fall apart piecemeal… the truth.

Oh yeah! 54 is so cool!

Two weeks ago I had a partial muscle pull in my right knee. Hurt like blazes but was getting better.

Today I lifted some brush from the back of my truck (unloading at the landfill) and pulled the damn thing again. Not slightly this time, either.

So now I'm one stepping up the stairs,  good foot up, set bad foot on the stair, get set, good foot up, repeat. Same thing going down. Yippee!!

I just love being older! (Yeah, right!!!)

There is no advantage to getting old, face it. Most people draw intelligence on prior experiances, the older you get the more experiances you've had to guide yourself. I'm 50ish and see the vast majority of todays youth as SPOILED ROTTEN.(I live in a blue state)

I beg to differ....THE ALTERNATIVE TO GETTING OLD IS A LOT WORSE!!

A college student at a recent VPI football game  challenged a 50 something year old
sitting next to him, saying it was impossible for  their generation to
understand his. "You grew up in a  different world,"  the student
said....loud enough for everyone around them to hear.   "Today we have
television,  satellite positioning, jet planes, space  travel, man has walked
on the moon, our spaceships  have visited mars,  we even have nuclear energy,
electric and hydrogen cars, cell phones,  computers with high-speed
processing .... and uh.."   Taking  advantage of a pause in the student's
litany, the geezer said, "You're right.  We didn't have those things when we
were young; so we  invented them,  you little twit!   What the heck are you
doing for the next  generation?"

I love  being 52

Lets see the great year I am having by turning fifty this past January. Tomorrow I get to do a nuclear stress test. Then all kinds of blood work. Now the best part is I get to be scoped up my ass in 3 weeks. The doctor says I should be 10 lbs lighter(I am 5'6" weighing in at 160#)I guess that is better than waking up and you are room temperature.

bingo!...I got 53 coming up in 2 months.  About the only good think I got to say is: at least my BACK doesn't hurt.  A return of back problems at this point in time would just about push me over the edge, on top of some other health problems I've got.  Money worries, job security worries...I'd love to be 19 again.  I was dating a titty dancer, and got all my gas and beer for free.   (all of that only lasted for a summer...she went back to college, and my dad started getting the CC bills)

The list of negative things about being 50 may be a bit longer than the cool things. I am a positive person so I don't dwell on my wrecked knees, enlarged prostate, balding scalp, expanding waist line, hearing loss....etc, etc.

A couple additions to the list of good stuff.

-Rachel Welsh in her prime
-$.29/ gallon for gasloline

What’s cool about it?

Nothing, other than I’ve made it this far. Just over 50.

I hope each and every one of you can join me in the over 50 club. And the over 60 club.

Just don’t join AARP.

Watch for their mail, it starts when you turn 48.

They know.
