The ZM. It is AR pattern with a folding stock and you can carry more 5.56 than 300 winmag or 7.62.

1) Paint my face with black shoe polish. 2) Go out and start destroying stuff, e.g., throwing bricks through plate glass windows and turning over cars. 3) As I'm doing #2, slowly make my way out of the city and gradually wipe the shoe polish off my face. 4) Make my way to the nearest cache. |

If it really is the apocalypse, then the world will soon end. Time to rape, pillage, and plunder. I can do all that with the Glock 17, and won't need a long gun. If I have to carry a rifle, that is less loot I can carry.

Need to take more then one rifle. One for close combat and one for the 900yd shots. I'd say the 223 in the city and I would break down the AR-10 and place it in a backpack (And don't tell me I'm the only person in the world that has a backpack big enough to place a rifle in.)The 223. ammo I would bring enough to fill each mag up twice (Your more likely to run in to someone shooting 223. then 308 win or 300 win.) and about 250 rd of 308 win. Thats just me if it was me doing this all I have is a 12ga and soon a AR-15 and a Glock 22 and a S&W 39-2. Both pistols on me 12ga slung over shoulder AR-15 in backpack 300 rd of 00 buckshot 100 rd slugs. 500rd 223. 250 rd of 40 S&W and about 200 RD 9mm (the 200 rd of 9mm is all I got now.) And my WW2 Ka-Bar and 21 century Ka-bar knife along with my tomahawk.

How much ammo with the AR-10? Since it would be used primarily as a defensive weapon (no need to waste ammo), I would probably go with number 1. The large quantity of ammo you could carry, plus the great capacity of the C-mag (100rnds.), would put this weapon in a similar tactical class as a SAW (though NOT fully automatic, lighter barrel heats up quicker, etc.). It would allow you to manipulate your weapon less during combat. Number 2 is a bolt gun, and I would take it only if given no other option, due to the fact that combat conditions would be such that it would only be useful in a sniper/countershiper role, as it is accurate and has the best penetrative capabilities of the three choices. However, the slower operation of the bolt and limited capacity would not be suitable for an all-around rifle. Number 3 and number 1 are almost tied in my book for the one weapon I would take, because you may need to shoot through semi-hard cover (auto bodies, etc.) to neutralize the threat, and it is also a semi-auto. However, I don't know how much ammo you are giving in this gun in this sit. Assuming all you had was (fully loaded) two 20's, one 5, and three 30's (40+5+90=135 rnds.), I would RATHER have choice number one, simply for the extra ammo. Also, if you are going to be fighting your way out of a metropolitan area, the longer weapon may be a little more of a hinderance in house-to-house "alley" combat (ie: how you would probably move to avoid being in the open and if all roads were blocked up). Also, weight of the rifle is probably more, and the heavier your weapon is, the more likely you will put it down when you NEED it suddenly. BTW, I wouldn't have the Glock 17, nor the 30 rnd. mags. I would rather go Beretta, but that is a personal preference (Glock doesn't fit my hand well). I would stick to 15 rnd. (17 for you) mags, because it makes it easier to carry, since it is your secondary weapon, not your primary. My .02, take it or leave it, Urban [sniper] |

If you DO need to, then you can probably scavenge a hunting rifle from someone. Chances are, no normal person, or even military personell(with the exception of Scout-Snipers) will even SEE you, nevermind engage you, at that range (if you are doing your part NOT to be a target). You should be able to elude any attack at that range by always seeking cover and minimizing exposure. Just the way I see it, Urban (again) |

Definately #1 but I wouldn't show myself unless my life was in danger. I'd probably be up shits creek if I had to fire more than a few rounds. Unless I had a partner or a few others to do some fire and move.

Since I have already read "Nuclear War Survival Skills" at [url]http://www.oism.org/nwss/s73p904.htm[/url], I would take my trusty AR-15 with ACOG, a whole bunch of ammo and my Beretta 92FS (Glock does not fit my hand), climb into my backyard bomb shelter and wait it out.

I will take the AR-10.
The last thing you want to do is draw attention to yourselves by shooting. Same thing with the Glock. A chopped 870 is much more useful. I would prefer to stay home. I have a hideout, but most of my survival gear is here. |

In a group, a .223 rifle is sufficient, and probably preferred. But on my own, hands down, it would be the AR10. And, hopefully, you meant a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5x10 LR Mil-Dot M3 on an Armalite mount, 'cause that's what I've got. [:)]

Next house WILL have somewhat hardened shelter/cellar. |

[b]2.)[/b] Rendezvous with the two hottest women I know. [b]3.)[/b] Escort them out of the metro area via my inflatable boat/raft [b]***Livin' In A Bombshelter Would Bite W/Out Two Hot Girls for [i]Company[/i]***[/b] (Specs Of Boat At End Of Post) along the Mississippi and join my family and old neighbors (two Vietnam Veteran Sniper/Scouts) in their survival location (which can cover 850 yards in all directions!). [b]*** NOTE: ***[/b] The reason I chose a boat is because chances are there may be road blocks along the major highways between here & there. Also by travelling via river, I can avoid many conflicts/firefights because I only need to fight 1.5 city blocks to the burial site of my boat/raft. Boat/Raft Specs As Follows (Cost About $1500): 8 Ft Boat/Raft with 3 quick-inflate tanks (inflates in 45 seconds! but i'm slow & takes me 2 minutes) Has hard-mounting board for gas-engine 10 HP Johnson Outboard & 20 Gallon Tank [b]You BET it was a PAIN IN THE ASS burying this sucker at night along the river DEEP INNER-CITY metro area without people seeing!!! The Engine & Fuel tank are sealed in an air-tight case to stop corrosion.[/b] The survival location is a well hidden [i](15-20 feet behind a treeline on a small knoll in a flat farmland)[/i] bunker-like complex with one large (underground) bomb shelter, three fox-hole/pillboxe [i](which are reinforced concrete)[/i] positions with 2 hidden exit tunnels, (shelter can withstand only one nuclear blast [according to navy intelligence engineering specs] has filtered ventilation/cooling like military nuclear shelters, but is not connected to the pillboxes as this would cause a problem letting chem/bio/nuclear pollutants into the shelter, also has 2 power generators in the shelter with exhaust leading outside) I have only been allowed in the bunker/shelter once in my lifetime, but let me tell you this: [b]I WAS SHOCKED[/b] at how well they were prepared with their AMMO & FOOD cache! Every three months these guys go in, Collect the expired food & replace the bad with good so they ALWAYS have 1 year worth of food to feed 18 people!!! What do I have to do to deserve a right to stay in this shelter if the time comes? When the MN River floods out their shooting range I help them rebuild their backstops, clean their shops & buildings after the water subsides. I give them ALL of my BRASS after shooting (they reload a lot!). Oh, also it's because my father payed a LARGE portion of their children's college bills giving them a sort of "interest free" informal loan (which they paid off right away). SO WHAT I'M RECOMMENDING IS THIS: [b]Survival Does NOT have to be the issue of merely ONE MAN! Get your family and NEIGHBORS involved! You WON'T REGRET IT![/b] IT's a TEAMWORK issue. I have a special frequency & code to communicate my approach to the shelter so I don't get shot on my way through the 850-1000 yard area |
