HEADLINE: Firearms regulations are changed again
OTTAWA (CP) -- The federal government announced more delays Monday in implementing its much-promoted and equally maligned firearms regulations. An amnesty for prohibited handguns and unregistered restricted guns has been extended to Dec. 31, and a $25 firearms transfer fee has been waived until the end of 2002. The transfer fee was first waived by the government last June.
An omnibus justice bill which includes the firearms regulations has been stalled by opposition tactics and won't be passed until after the Commons resumes in the autumn following the summer break. Justice Minister Anne McLellan said in a news release that the latest changes are designed to protect both gun dealer inventories and individual gun owners while Parliament works to pass Bill C-15.
``The transfer fee waiver provides firearms owners with a prolonged adjustment period to familiarize themselves with firearms registration as well as savings on pending and upcoming transfers,'' McLellan said in the release.

Thanks anothergene. Well money for starters I guess. Maybe an exemption from the hi-cap mag ban. FN's changed from prohibited to..buy as many as you want and use them for what ever you want. Okay..now I'm depressed[:(]

Nope, they aren't giving up just yet. If they hadn't had more pressing issues to deal with at the time - like giving Chretien a 42% raise - the PMO could have already pushed C-15 through Parliament.
As it is, they're just trying to get more compliance on the one hand (not bending you over quite as far yet on new firearm purchases) and on the other hand nailing a few hapless folk as examples. For instance, the 'amnesty' doesn't apply if the restricted firearm was EVER registered - a nugget of information that you cannot possibly discover for certain unless you have access to the government's registration information - which, predictably, they refuse to release.
Besides, in my experience it is those who enforce this law, not firearm owners, who have the most urgent need to take some time and study its convoluted folds.

I hear you on the FNs and hi-caps Striker. :) I'll have a side order of fries, silencers, fullautos, no registration, no transport permits, repeal of C-68, import/export restrictions, a new government in Ottawa, and free ammo. Hey, ya gotta dream.

Well there is nothing anyone can really do, once bull shit laws are passed in Canada they are never removed, its nice to dream, but hey things never work that way. If we had no ban on HI-cap mags we would have such amazing prices for c-mags and other LEO stuff. but then again, wont happen.
You can delay but you can't stop human stupidity.

Yeah, and given your past comments, I'm sure you are all too eager to don your stormtrooper/ninja costume and raid his home to help him be a nice obediant subject and do the right thing. Maybe if you are realy lucky, he will have a pregnant wife you can slam against the wall or a pet kitten you could stomp to death.
