I have always been paid hourly so I never paid attn: to any possible rule changes for those paid a salary.
My wife is a Med. Lab Tech for a local blood bank. They just switched all Lab Techs from hourly with overtime pay, call pay, shift differential, to salary, no time clock but a scheduled shift. They will get thier call pay like always but no official time off to make up for time they are called in.
So before is she was called in 3 times for a total of 6 hrs they would then send her home 6hrs early one day. They do not like to pay OT wages.
They often need to stay late to get work done or the blood goes bad, usually they would get time off to compensate for this, OT pay if they did go over 40.
So now since no one is actually counting the hours at work no more time clock, I am thinking the worker bees will still be expected to stay late but magically they will not be able to fine the slow time off to leave early.
I think they all just got screwed.
Is there any benifit to being salaried over hourly, in theory one could leave early when slow, or for doctors appointment etc, but the pessimist in me does not see this happening.
