Today my class (2nd grade) made thank you cards to send to the troops in Iraq. It was great! I first started out telling them about the war in Iraq and what led up to it. Then I led in to why the troops are over there and the sacrifices they are making for them. That is no small feat considering they are 7 years old and their understanding of the world is very limited and often very funny. It was nice to see some of the illustrations had a definite military theme to them complete with big ole' tanks with USA on the side, helicopters and assault rifles. I got a little misty-eyed. I hope the troops that read the cards get a big kick out of them.
