So I went out today at lunch and bought Dawn of the Dead on DVD. I get home, thinking I'm going to get to relax and watch a good zombie flick and everything would be great. How wrong I was!

I pop the DVD in, and up comes a screen stating that I will be able to access the main menu AFTER the previews! Sure as shit, 5 minutes worth of previews and I can't skip past them!

This is total bullshit! I watch DVD's so that I DON'T have to watch commericals! It's bad enough that I have to see commercials at the begining of a movie at the theater that cost me $9, but this is too much!

$15.99 for a DVD that is going to show me 5 minutes worthy of commercials every FUCKING TIME IT PUT THE DAMN THING IN!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Am I anone on this one or what?

You should be able to skip the previews by hitting the main menu button.

Are you absolutely sure you could not somehow bypass the commercials?

If not this is a SHTF situation.

Same deal with my Lost In Translation DVD, but you are able to fastforward through them, but not skip them entirely, and agreed, very crappy.

Hmmm. my unrated version allows me to skip to the menu....

You can always burn a copy without the commericals to fix your problem. Shouldn't have to, but if it bothers you that much.

Did you install the "player" that comes with it by chance?

ETA: I just put my copy in, and right before the previews it says "you can skip to the main movie at any time".......

Just open the DVD player and spin it forward past the previews/commercials. Duh.

I'm on my second DVD player and I own a playstation.  On my old DVD player I cannot bypass any previews they want me to watch...also cannot bypass FBI warnings.  On the Playstation I could bypass some things, but almost never the FBI warning.

On my brand new DVD player (bought it last week...I wanted a silver one ) I have yet to find anything I cannot bypass.

It seems that the companies producing the DVDs are playing catchup with the player makers.

The only time I've had that happen was with a rented BlockBuster vid, NOTHING to do but watch the damned ads(or go piss and grab a beer)!

I think that the use of the Johnny Cash song at the start of that movie is the best use of usic in film, EVER.

They FORCE us to watch their crap previews then wonder why people download crappy copys off the internet. at least no fucking previews!

Get used to it, I rent at least 30 DVDs per month and a substancial number of them have this...

And don't even get me started on local manufactured DVD's that not only get rid of the special features but use that space to add supid commercials (phone companies, .gov propaganda, etc etc, NOT PREVIEWS) on the bigining THAT YOU CAN'T SKIP EITHER!!!!

Get an Apex DVD player (or any other one that you can hack) - Hack it so it is Region transparent.  Then you can skip the ads and other crap, and just watch what you paid for.

I hated that crap too.

Use the track forward button to click past the previews one at a time and then hit the root/main menu button. It takes a few seconds, but its not that bad.

Mine's a Pioneer DV-354 multizone and I still can't bypass shit...
Do you know how to do it?

This screen comes up right before the first trailer. My guess is that it's operator error.

edit to add: this was the Unrated Directorss Cut version (Widescreen)

Pioneer 525= OK
Toshiba DVD player= MENU button on the Toshiba remote takes me straight to the Main Menu.
XBOX= MENU button on the XBOX remote takes me straight to the Main Menu also.

I clicked the 'Menu' button on the remote at the picture I posted^.

Works fine for 3 for 3 DVD players . 'Track Forward' button also allowed me to skip to the end of each trailer.

Now there's a tragedy... I hate to break it to you, but the previews before Lost in Translation were better than the whole movie itself. That movie was the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked.

As for the DotD preview thing... I had no problem getting by them just hitting the next chapter button.

Chop the song with background sounds then make it a MP3, I'll make it and post it as soon as I get everything installed again.

His name is Tom Savini and he is a special effects guru and he also directed the remake of Night of the Living Dead (1990)
