My family and I are currently on a holiday break in London.  We've been here for only 3 days and I can't wait to head back to the U.S.

You cannot have a social life here if you are seen to support President Bush.  English fair-play and balanced reporting is completely non-existant, as Bush-America bashing occurs on a daily basis in all the local newspapers.

I travel rather extensively and am concerned that almost everyone outside of the United States hates this President and our country.  For the most part, I believe that the media is responsible for spreading this hatred and misinformation.  It is like having the pro-Kerry New York Times broadcasting the world over.

Does anyone else on this forum share my experience?  Is America doomed to go it alone as Europe and the rest of the world gang up against it?

Well, I travel abroad extensively (usually one week each month), and have found a signficant amount of America hating. I have also found in many nations, that the people there would move to the US is a New York minute if they were able.

BTW, hating Ameica is nothing new. Its been around for a LONG time.

Since when is the U.S. "handing out money" to Europe?

Keep in mind that Britian is the strongest ally, and has sent a huge portion of their military (which is much smaller than the U.S. military) to Iraq.

I get the impression that there's a lot of dislike for BUSH in Europe (and elsewhere) that is not necessarily refecting a general dislike for the U.S.

Also please remember that "Europe" is just a geographical label - despite the E.U. there is not "Europe" - Norway has about as much in common with Portugal or Greece as they do with China or the Congo.

DK -  I equate defending the continent for the second half of the 20th century as handing out money.

I personally have zero problems with the Brits, they are th US's greatest ally.  In addition, my comments weren't necessarily directed at Europe but at the world in general.

Northern Ireland is the same. My family (in-laws) over there love to bash Bush. My wife's uncle is currently mailing me a book by Michael Moore because it will supposedly convince me that GW is a war criminal, etc. Interestingly, the 40-something and older crowd in the family universally hate Bush, but the teenager and 20-something crowd will listen to my pro-Bush arguments and some even  support me. I actually had 1 lad screaming  "USA USA USA" in a bar last year! A lot of alcohol helped his conversion no doubt, but a true story nonetheless. All is not lost!

We are often told that our allies are the U.K. and Japan.  Watching CNN International (not the same CNN we get in the U.S.) has convinced me that only Tony Blair and a couple of his party members are supporting our President.  Likewise, in Japan, it seems like only the Japanese Prime Minister is on our side.  Everyone else wants Kerry in the White House on November 3rd!

The Guardian (an English Newspaper) has even encouraged its readers to write to voters in the U.S. asking them to vote Kerry!  'The Times' in London only features articles that portray us in bad light.  It is so bad over in London that I really can't find one positive piece of reporting pertaining to the U.S.

I'm pretty sure that's a no. Tony Blair has committed a good part of England's military to the War on Terror, and there hasn't been that much of a backlash against him. (Of course, the leftist hate his guts because of it, but he hasn't been thrown out of office or anything). I would imagine that London is kinda like New York - almost like a giant convention of all the Liberals, Leftists, Socialists, and Communists in the nation. Not that there aren't any Conservatives there, but they mostly get drowned out. Things might be a bit different in rural England outside of London.

Say, where's vito113 when you need him?

Why are you calling him a troll? I have traveled to the UK numerous times in the past two years, and I have to agree with what BORG writes. I was in Manchester while OIF was in progress, and the UK media was gloating at how badly the war was going, and that it had turned into a quagmire from which the US and UK would never reach Baghdad.

Of course, when I got back to the U.S., they were pulling Saddam's statue down in Baghdad.

It's the subliminal messages in his posts:

"Is America doomed to go it alone as Europe and the rest of the world gang up against it?"

"Everyone else wants Kerry in the White House on November 3rd!"

"I travel rather extensively and am concerned that almost everyone outside of the United States hates this President and our country." - This one is blatant line that Kerry supporters spew like yesterday's breakfast! BORG didn't even TRY and conceal this one!

Why do they hate us? Because we invaded Iraq? Because of our policies in Isreal? Beacuse we pulled out of the International Criminal Court?

What should we do to rectify this international contempt for our nation? Submit to the will of the UN and make the defense of our country secondary to the collective opinion of the security council? Perhaps if we showered less and ate more Brie cheese the world may like us better. Or maybe we are just too well armed for their tastes.

If John Kerry wins, will your troubles overseas go away?

I believe that we're hated because of the freedoms we enjoy and the fact that the U.S. has progressed from a Superpower to become the world's only Hyperpower.  It is jealousy for the most part, but media bias and misinformation is playing a large role too.

And you're dead-wrong motown_steve; I am 100% pro-BUSH.  Anyone who values our Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment cannot possibly be a supporter of Kerry, who is rightfully described as the most anti-gun Presidential candidate in history.

Does anyone else on this forum share my experience?  I share your experience...but I don't let it get to me.  I simply retain my quiet, smug attitude.  (It's good to be da king!) Is America doomed to go it alone as Europe and the rest of the world gang up against it?

Yes...this is a simple case of Realpolitik on the part of the Euroweenies.  As with after WW II, the Euros see in American now, a great economic, military, and cultural giant, capable of [negatively] influencing the world in their eyes.  They fear our hegenomy...even if we try to assure them of our peaceful and non-expansionist intents.  They are insanelly jealous for all that we have and what we represent.

If the ROW, or a large part of it were to, "gang up on us", how far would they go and how much would THEY be willing to sacfifice?  Remember, we are a world economy now.   They depend as much on us as we on them.  Militarily, it is no contest.  They try to fight us...we win.

Fear not...and be proud of your blessings as an American citizen.  We are very fortunate to be Americans.
