They just know!

I must say... Given the"fact" that 100,000 kids carry to school, and how few school shootings actually occur, kids are therefore a pretty safe segment of the population...

BTW it was on the "Coast to Coast" program... listening to KCRW in Santa Monica via iTunes internet radio.

If kids even bring squirt guns to school, they get suspended.

Not only squirt guns.  There has been kids suspended for poiting their finger "like a  gun" or the infamous chicken nugget scandle where a kid was expelled for pointed the deadly piece of fowl at a teacher in a threatening manner.

The world is insane.

"100,000 students bring guns to school each year"

"What a crock of crap"

I can say for sure that there are a number of students at my sons school that bring guns. In fact a couple weeks ago there were all manner of long guns there, student owned. Its a private school and the headmaster encouages the practice. On designated days students bring their long guns and the 'outdoor ed' for that day is a couple hrs of range time. Its great fun and my club sponsors it. Some of the teachers and myself run 3 ranges...clays, rifle and HG. This school also has no problem w/ students who bring pocket knives either. Its rather refreshing really...theyre being taught how to act like responsible adults (or at least adults in the making). What a concept...huh?

or 556 students carry every day to school.  100,000 guns / 180 days = 555.5...a little more reasonable here.

Statistics don't lie, but staticians do!

That's an important distinction – In most rural areas, during hunting season, a random search of the school parking lot would probably find firearms in the trunks and behind the front seats of many students' vehicles...

I'm sure in rural areas where guns are more acepted many kids bring guns to school during hunting season  then factor in getto schools where many kids "pack" for protection and I'm sure that number is LOW

When I was a kid I would bring my o/u 20 GA to school and put it in the coat room after school if I did not have chores to do I would go hunting.

Then in High-school many of us would keep a rifle in the car (including many teachers) so we could get to our tree stands as soon as school was out.

I do not recall one single problem.

Are they including colleges and universities?  I would believe it then.

Was this on NPR news at the top of the hour or one of the "shows"? I've almost gone off the road screaming at the radio during the Diane Rhiems (however you spell it) show.

The shows are on at different times in different cities by the way and not all shows are on everywhere.

That's why I had to follow it up with what show and where it was from. Chances are though, whenever "Coast to coast" is on today, you'll be able to hear it for yourself. (BTW I am looking on both the KCRW and the NPR website and am finding nothing on it... I'll keep digging)

I have found myself reduced to shouting at my dashboard at the top of my lungs by NPR before. I don't know why I listen to it... perhaps I have a masochistic streak in me. I don't know.

My thoughts exactly.  If they actually believed that crap, they would have to believe that guns aren't very dangerous at all.

Making me wonder if the "100,000" also includes squirt guns, drawing pictures of guns, having toy soldiers with guns, saying the word "gun...." wearing T-shirts with guns screen printed on them  and all the other bogus zero tolerance suspensions.
