Wow, that's terrible. You can tell they're both dead or paralysed by the end because they're both just rolling like rag dolls.

. . . . . . . . ow . . . . . ooohhhh......... ow . . . . bloody hell  . . . . . .

Anyone who is unconcious will fall like a rag doll.  It is a blessing to go unconcious after falling that way, that far.

Oh my . . . .

Latin American stations are much more graphic about what they'll show.  The 'Iraqi with RPG' classic clip was also from Latin American TV coverage.

Tough to watch but you play with the bull, you get the horns.  Too many yuppies with money are getting into the 'danger boy' hobbies.

Anyone see "Open Water"?  Perfect example...

You can see a cable pulling them up, looks like it broke.

They lived. It was on Real TV the other day. They interviewed one of the guys. It was training mission for the S&R team of the Fire Department i believe. DigitalPunk was right, the cable did snap that was holding onto them.

Several years ago while climbing a mountain in Canada, a member of our group fell because of a rock that released in his hand. He fell like a rag doll, bouncing off rocks like rag doll. His head landed on a piece of rotton wood and I believe that is all that saved his life.
I had to go find him, the women were hysterical. He was air lifted which took several hours because of where we were in the wilderness. That memory is burned into me and I see it like it was yesterday.
He healed and came back next year.

They lived, and I think at least one of them is still on the Search and Rescure team.

Not a fun way to go....

Unless you had like a solid 10 second fall... that has fun potential... but not the slow tumbling...

The newsman sounds like Jorge Ramos out of Miami. the basis jist is:

...two firemen were practicing a resue when the helicopter cable gave way and they both fell 60 meters...

I'm in SAR, that horible, but if you look at it, they were being lifted up by a rope, then they werent. meaning the rope probably snaped. its tragic, and that is why i dont get on a rope system unless the rope is 11.5 or 16mm, and I personaly know and trust every person who set it up. this is what happens when SAR goes wrong. i hope they RIP. :(

Rock Climbing is fun.

Rapelling, or any other risky endeavour that requires you to rely completely on equipment is Stupid!

I rock climbed, alpine climbed went to OLS etc. and they burn it into your head "Triple Check" all equipment...if it looks worn in any way, bite the bullet and purchase a new one.

Rapelling is safer than rock climbing. Last I checked taking a 50ft fall when climbing and pulling out all the cams will certainly ruin your day. At least with rapelling you ease your weight onto the rope and then begin your decent.
