Isn't that it's for?
Situations evolve fast and the last thing you want to do is be wrestling to chamber a round while the bad guy is on top of you. Unless oyu carry a wheelgun  Be crazy to carry a semi-auto gun for personal protection unloaded. |

I have worked with some guys that felt the same way until i did some 21ft knife drills with them. In EVERY case i as a fat redneck was able to be on top of them before they cleared leather. Let alone rack the slide. +1 cocked and locked. If you can't trust the gun in condtion 1 you can't trust it period. mike |

I personally think you should carry either a gun or ammunition, but not both. Leave the other one in your glove compartment, desk drawer, or breadbox.

Then he IS NOT ready to Carry a weapon. Until you can honestly say you can use it competantly and without reservation you don't need to have it. Just because you have a right doesn't mean you are ready. He NEEDS competant training. if he went to a defense class and they taught him that garbage he NEEDS a new instructor. mike ps i just posted over there. |

Carry a loaded weapon with a round IN the chamber.
Of course, you could always learn that HSLD TacticalIsraeliNinja Draw/Rack/Die technique. During my LE career, I carried off-duty at all times. Now, in my civillian career, I carry and handgun and a rifle, loaded at all times. Cocked, locked, ready to rock. |

Amen. I feel very safe with it - carrying without a round in the chamber is TACTICALLY UNSOUND. If you are worrying about ADs or, forgive the pun, "jumping the gun" to shoot somone, then you shouldn't be packing, need some training or confidence, or need to do something about your mode of carrying (like buy a holster). |

I carry condition 1 for 99.99% of the time.
Used to be I would carry condition 3 sometimes if I was traveling long highway miles with no planned stops, but I started carrying condition 1 almost always in order to simplify my gun handling routine. The other .01%? Well, once in a great while I drive through some not so nice parts of Indy. Then I carry condition 0.

Most state laws regarding use of lethal force for defence of self and or others stipulates terms in which you are authorized. One term found almost conclusively in all is the term IMMINENT If you have time to load your gun a prosecutor will crucify you.

As you wait for the light to turn green, a dark figure with a gun suddenly appears behind your vehicle and approaching fast to your driver side. Full magazine, round in chamber, safety off, hammer down.
My pistol is a DA/SA, all I have to do is draw and pull the trigger DA for the first shot, after that, well you know how a damn pistol works. ETA; For those who carry with no round chambered do anyone of y'all ever practice the backpocket (or belt or pantstop) method of charging an auto pistol? I used to do it regularly but I tore up too many belts/pants. Just in case this method is where you draw the pistol and immediately press the rear sight hard against your butt then shove down with the pistol. The rear sight will snag either your belt. pocket or pants top and hold the slide as you push downward on the frame. When the slide gets all the way back it will pop loose, sometimes tearing out your pocket or scratching up your belt but still, it does work and is very fast. |

If you feel that way then why even have the mag in the gun, keep the mag in you pocket and load it when you need to load it.
Personally, I always carry in condition 1. The less steps you have to take to defend yourself in a high adrenaline situation, and with a split second reation time the less chance you have of making a mistake. |

Beretta 9000s in 40S&W. It is a DAO. Yes, chamber loaded, hammer down(hammer won't lock back, its DAO)
It has no trigger saftey, but it does have a fireing pin saftey, the hammer cannot be hit by anything, and even if the hammer did get hit, the hammer cannot even touch the fireing pin without the trigger being pulled all the way back. So yes, of course its loaded. |
