Thanks for the compliments guys.

Anyone know if you can get he Gunner grips setup for a magwell? Alumagrips would be nice too.

Just order a set Flat Bottom Grips and if you want a serious look get Pin-Cover Grips.

Saaaay, thats a nice beaver tail installation!

Did you use the jig(220 radius)?  I'll buy it from you if you dont plan on using it again!

Right around $580 so far.  I know some are going to say "why didnt you just buy the loaded model".  The quality of the parts just isnt there on the loaded models.  The loaded models are filled with MIM parts that I wont put my life on.

That`s the cost of everthing, including the gun?

How much did you get your GI Mil-Spec?  And how much will it cost to get the dovetails cut for the new sights?

Picked up the gun for $380.  They can be found at Sportsmans Warehouse for $389.  Dovetails will run around $100

Damn, can`t find a Mil-Spec around here for less than $480.  Still might consider doing it though.  How hard is it to fit the parts into the receiver?

I forgot to add...It looks nice! Can you shoot us a pic from the back...showing the rear of the slide and frame fit?

There was a little fitting to do on just about everything but nothing to difficult.  The hardest was the beaver tail.

How is fitting done?  Doesn`t it harm the finish?  Why did you choose parts that require fitting over drop-in parts?

Just curious, but why the Smith and Alexander grip saftey over something like the Ed Brown Memory Groove? I've heard Springfield uses a .220" frame radius that makes the Ed Brown not meet up correctly, and I'm in the middle of a Springfield build of my own (commander length, caspian slide, wilson combat barrel).

I did the same damn thing last week for a friend. Had a hard of a time with the beaver tail. Did it on the living room floor watching tv with a few files and several beers. The finish on those pistols is thick and hampered some fitting. All in all it was easy. Damn good job as my fit isn't quite as good as yours. Where'd you get the jig?

Something very similar ahead for myself.

'91 Colt M1991A1 and going to put:

S&A magwell
Wilson ambi Safety
Wilson beavertail
Wilson trigger
STI sear
Novak sights

on it...

You are correct, only the S&A beaver tail with .220 radius properly fits. If you want to use a Ed Brown Memory groove safety it requires you to build up the tangs by welding.

Good to know, Im only a couple of days away from ordering those parts, and I was going to go with the Ed Brown. Looks like I'm S&A, thanks! :]

Very nice... I'd like to do something like that to a Stainless Milspec.  I have a Parkerized Milspec, and want to keep it as milspec in appearance as possible, but wouldn't mind a nice barrel/bushing to accurize it a bit...

I going with the S&A too.  Even though the Ed Brown needs the welding and shaping it looks schweet!  I've seen a few pictures of them on the 1911 forums.

I know what you're saying.  It does get a little nerve racking when you start to remove large amounts of metal from a firearm or $50 part.

I used the jig for mine and still had to go back and remove more and mor emetal. I thought I was doing something wrong after working at it with a file and lapping paste for about an hour!

Not quite sure how to take that

It looks like the gun came from the factory looking like that, like a machine did it. You have skill with the dremel.

NICE!

It still needs a good set of sights, though.

(the one thing a bone-stock GI pistol in the 1940's needed.....)
