Well, Chamberlain would approve, wouldn't he?

Sir Winston must be rolling in his grave fast enough to effect the rotation of the earth by now.

Teaching of Islam in schools backed

Oct 12 2004

A new drive to teach Islam in schools is set to be launched.

Education Secretary Charles Clarke has backed the move, organised by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).

He said it was vital to creating "understanding" between different cultures.

Resource packs prepared for schools include books, videos and CDs which the MCB hopes will help overcome "barriers" to teaching Islam in schools.

Mr Clarke said the project deserved support.

"It is only through understanding that this country can move forward as a true multi-faith and multicultural society," he said.

"We must ensure children grow up with a better understanding of their friends and neighbours.

"The Muslim Council of Britain's initiative, books for schools, brings us much closer towards that goal."

Iqbal Sacranie, secretary-general of the MCB, said education was "the key" to creating a vibrant and understanding society.

"These resources, developed by our team of educationalists, aim to overcome the barriers to the teaching of Islam experienced by so many of our teachers by making available creative, engaging and child-friendly resources on Islam and Muslims."

Understanding between cultures only works if both cultures are open to it.

Name one predominately Islam area where Christianity is taught for better 'understanding'.
